My positive experience with using the Silencer to ID civil war minnie balls

One of my favorite sites to hunt for civil war relics is also littered with modern bottle caps. The VDI of minnie balls in air tests is around 71 (11.7 kHz), in the ground they read anywhere from 71-the low 90's. The million bottle caps at my site show VDIs in the exact same range making...

    V3I Coil

I do not know the max depth attainable by the 4x6 or the 6x10 but I do know that in some places I hunt they make a giant difference in their ability to allow me to separate out the trash. Places like heavily littered parks, torn down houses as well as tight spots are all places in which the...

    V3I Coil

I have a wide variety of coils for my V3i. While your needs are not pointing at the smaller coils, I really enjoy using my 4x6 and 6x10 shooters in trashy areas. In my opinion it is well worth the investment to have a shooter type coil in the bag. I also have the 12 Super coil and enjoy...

    v3i polar plot

Enter the expert menu by double clicking the menu button, then navigate to Filter & Speed. Once there there are settings for search and analyze. From here you can change either screen to any mode you desire. Learning to navigate around the expert menu takes a little time but is well...

    Just bought a new V3i!

Sweep speed settings are easy to alter with the Recovery button. It is def. one control I always have on my live menu.

    Just bought a new V3i!

a quick thought on larger coils, most people, myself included want larger coils for more depth. As a rule larger coils will gain more depth, but the gain is usually small and not "wow". On most high end machines the manufacturer has paired the machine with a great all around coil. While I...

    Just bought a new V3i!

What I am calling the live menu are the menu choices that are on the bottom of the active search screen that you can easily scroll thru and any changes you make here are "live". This is a opposed to double clicking the menu button and entering advanced mode or using the 6 block menu. The...

    Just bought a new V3i!

You will enjoy the V3i, it is a great machine! Spend the next few days pouring over the forums and related websites for tips and advice. Learn how to "extend" the menu on the live screen and place the parameters you want to tweak on the live screen, then it is super easy to try one setting...

    DEEP SILVER MODE

It is a valuable tool to tinker with. While I do not normally hunt with it I do like to interrogate targets with it. Additionally sometimes to wake my mind up I will hunt in deep silver as the sounds and "feel" are quite different. HH Robert

    V3i Tone Settings

I agree with what has already been said tones are totally adjustable. I love being able to create my coin programs and assigning a single high tone to all coin VDIs and to assign them as "tight" as I want around the target VDI, really helps me pick coins from trash.

    V3i Tone Settings

Yes, easy to do. While it takes some time to learn, you can set the tones virtually any way you want them.

The VX3 tones makes me want to grab a piece of wood and start gnawing on it

Of all the high end detectors, the V3i has the best tones and tone settings in my opinion.

One last question to V3 and V3i owners

You sound like the perfect V3i owner, someone who really loves the research. I own a range of detectors and have never once regretted buying my V3i, not for a moment. Keep researching and learning, you will not be disappointed, I promise.
