    Multilingual

A few years back my friend Dave and I both had a motorcycle and we took lots of trips together. We took a lot of day trips, a fair number of weekend trips, but once a year we would take a cross country trip. We went to places like Atlanta, Montreal, Copper Harbor, Bad Ax, Irish Hills, and Sioux...

Some Grafonola music with some Duke photos :D

I was working on the old windup Grafonola that I bought and I got the speed finally adjusted and it sounded pretty good. So I was going to upload the audio but YouTube wouldn't let me upload it. So, I make a movie starring Duke that has the Grafonola sound track in the background. Yeah, I'm...

One more addition to the basement project

I bought a 1912 Columbia Grafonolas made by the American Graphophone Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She plays pretty nice, gets about 5 to 6 records per windup. It's much louder than I would have expected, I have to turn the volume down all the way. I still want to get a period tiffany...

OK, time to play ... caption this photo

Some photos just beg for a humorous caption, and I think that this is one of them. I'll go first. :) Trying to solve the Cat Woman kidnapping case, Batman tries to read the mind of a likely looking suspect. [attachment 186651 DBM.jpg]

Got the phone mounted ... and a new project :)

I finally got the phone mounted, what a beast! I used four 1/4" cement anchors to mount a 1/2" oak backboard to the block wall. Then I used four 1 1/2" #10 brass screws to attach the phone to the backboard. It's pretty solid, I don't think it's going to be going anywhere. I'm not much of a...

    The brewery is on break

As most of you already know, one of my main hobbies now is brewing beer. Currently I have four batches fermenting in the basement which is a record for me. Normally I only have one, or possibly two beers fermenting at any given time. But after brewing three batches in thee days I think the...

    Added to the basement tonight

I found a good deal on a nice wood wall telephone with a crank. It's a 1911 Western Electric model 317 N-P-R-S. The bell works and overall it's in excellent shape for it's age. I am going to try and find a replacement cord as the one on it it very frayed. Also, I need to find three dry cell...

    1500 accessories

I've got 5 inches of snow on the ground so my new 1500 is still untested in the dirt. I've watched the video a few times and have been practicing all the functions with air tests to pass the time. But I got to thinking about accessories and was wondering if there are any that I should look into...

Just got my 1500 and I have some questions

How accurate is the 1500 with air tests? My air tests show that it reads a quarter and a nickle accurately. But a dime reads as a penny and a penny reads a notch below penny. Also, with sensitivity set at 7 it detects a quarter only out to about 4 inches. I'm just trying to determine if I just...

    A GTI 1500 question

is there and old and new version of the GTI 1500? I have been looking at getting a used one and some have a thick white coil on them and others have a thinner black coil on them. Also, I thought I remember reading somewhere that there was a firmware upgrade or some kind of improvement on the one...

    GTI 1500 vs Ace 250

I am still trying to get a grasp on the performance difference between the GTI 1500 and the Ace 250. How do the two compare straight up performance wise? Side by side, how do they compare for coin hunting in parks? Specifically depth, ID accuracy, and performance in trash. Please do not compare...

Has anyone in here used a Garrett ACE 250?

I'm looking for a detector that I can use as a backup. Also, one that I can keep in my vehicle for scouting targets of opportunity that I run across. From what I have read the Ace 250 appears to be a decent detector for the money. I don't expect a $200 detector to replace my Explorer, but I...

Selling my unused coils in the classified forum

I'm unloading some Explorer coils in the classified forum and then using the funds to buy .... a Garrett. Why? Seems that silver is getting harder and harder to find in all my usual parks. I got skunked enough times last year that it started taking some of the fun out of detecting. So my plan is...

    GTI 1500 vs GTI 1550

I found a GTI 1550 listed for sale. I don't see anything on the Garrett web site about a GTI 1550 so I assume that it is a store model. Anyone else seen this? http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=268401
