New detector

Iam not new to detecting. have been using CTX3030 for years. Had to send in for repair and thought Id try a equinox 800. It seemed set up from the minelab ready to go . After turning it on I get the threshold hum, etc. But when I try to detect a quarter I get nothing! No TID, to increased hum nothing. Can anyone tell me what Iam missing? I thought this machine was easy!
thanks so much.

The machine has a bit of a learning curve, if you have a ctx3030 you should have no problems.
A hum and no TDI numbers sound odd, for the heck of it I would do a factory reset, then make sure you are not in the gold program. Select a park or beach mode and try again (outside)

Yes this is a very simple detector to use. I tried the first program for parks. tried quarters, and other coins and even rings will not sound off anything. It is not in the gold program. Full battery. Did a factory reset twice. Hard to believe I would get the one defective equinox after having to send in my CTX3030 last week! What a bummer.

Disconnect the coil connector and verify the pins are not bent or missing. If all is OK, reinsert the connector and thumb tighten the knurled nut.
Check that the detector Volume is set to an audible level (e.g. 20).
If you are using wired headphones, do the same with the headphone connector.
If you are using the wireless headphones, are they charged, turned on , paired and the wireless headphone volume is turned up.
If you still have the problem, call Minelab support, if they can't help over the phone they should give you and RMA.

Hmmm sounds like a dodgy coil to me, you mentioned the threshold, the Equinox range has a 'reference' threshold only, the true threshold is in the gold modes

Thanks for the advice. All I know is its not picking up anything, yet humming the pitch, basically no numbers appear running over anything.

That’s a shame and disappointing.
Hope this does not turn you off about the Equinox… it is a great detector.

Well been busy today. IT all was very bothersome to get a brand new detector that fails. But the company I purchased it from wouldnt help at all they only referred to minelab. When I called minelab repair center they were great. Couldnt have had better service. Probably since they had my CTX3030 in for repair they felt bad for me and mailed out a new equinox 800 today. But I have never delt with a company that would not back a defective item right out of the box! I did save some money but no returns allowed! So pick your company carefully. Thanks for everyones feedback.
