Legend Settings

Got the new Legend in today from Kellyco and watched several setup vids as well as read the manual. My question is regarding iron filter, bottle cap reject, and ground supressor. Do any of you change these from the defaults and have you noticed improvement? The detector is for my 14 year old son who gets frustrated digging junk so I would rather err on the side of digging less junk and especially being more able to identify iron. thanks!

My recommendation for you son is to use the default settings until he gets a feel for the machine. I dont have a problem identifying iron with the Legend using the default settings so he probably wont either. Bottle caps are a little trickier but I rarely get fooled. I've heard that if you turn the bottle cap reject up too high it can do more harm than good so be careful there.

Same with the ground suspression.
To much can loose targets and depth.

Thank you! Will definitely keep that in mind!

And make any adjustments very small ones. Remember your ground readings can change from point to point and rejecting caps may work really well in one area but move 50 feet and you now lose good targets.

For a beginner that gets frustrated, default and high bottle cap rejection should help. The iron filter is already maxed out at default but bottle caps can still sound good to a beginner. BC rejection stops that. It will lose good targets but your son will find many good ones without digging so much iron. After he is "hooked" and gets more experience, he will probably want to experiment and try different settings. I remember how frustrating digging iron was when I first started.

Exactly what I was thinking. I know he would possibly miss some good targets but digging less iron trash might help his morale a bit. Lol

Perhaps going ahead of him and find some targets that you can pretty easily identify what they are, and then let him listen and see what his thoughts are……All Metal……with an adjustable lower iron volume is helpful to still hear iron targets coexisting with good targets to help with IDing targets…. His ears will be his best tools down the road….

Do mot sugar coat his digging .. Treasure Hunting .. It is the surprise that is waiting under the.. coil .... That lousy crappy sound .. Maybe a gold ring .. I know because I have dug a Gold ring that a buddy passed on .. We did a ring recovery he missed it because he was using someone coin program .. Same type of detector I only detect using default settings
