Barber & Franklin Halves / Old Political Token

floodplaindetector

Well-known member
I had some good time to get out and hunt the past couple weekends. All finds shown were pulled from researched public sites.
Most were pulled with my Deus 2 and a few with my Minelab Manticore.

Most of the silver including the halves and quarters were pulled out of South Dakota. Others were pulled out of Minnesota and North Dakota.
The Barber half dollar was pulled a couple weekends ago. It was a tight signal about 11 inches deep. The junk around it was skewing it down to wheat penny/silver dime numbers.
The Franklin half was pulled at a different park and was only about 6 inches deep. It gave me half numbers from every direction. The silver quarter was pulled close by.

Also pulled that day was that big brass 1928 political token. The person on the token is the guy Herbert Hoover beat in the 1928 presidential election.
Was hoping it was a U.S. large cent but I will take that token any day.

Last weekend I pulled that Button/Button Ring? at an old school site. That was way deep. If anyone has ideas on it please let me know.
Thanks for looking!
Dave

Great finds Dave! Isn't it exciting when a big silver sees the light of day for the first time in years? I haven't been out as much as I woul like to so I live the hobby thru you guys! I only have a couple of mercs an one thin Barber dime for the year...

You sir are the consummate coinshooter. Your knack for silver is uncanny. Congrats on all the shiny and other cool finds. I love the presidential token. What is the thing to the right of the watch. I've dug a couple of them. You mentioned you have a Manticore. Your thoughts ? I use one and although not at your level of success I have done pretty well with it. I dug a crisp 41 Walker on my last outing from a well pounded area of a heavily hunted old park. Continued success and look forward to your next post

Great finds again Dave.. Sounds like the Deus 2 is doing well for you and being you are also using the Manticore you can see which one does the best for you and your type of hunting. I got our friend Tim asking me about the Manticore and think he may want to get one and wonder if it will go deeper than his E-trac .. He tried a Equinox 800 and like his E-Trac better and wondering if the Manticore would do better.

Again Great finds Dave and sure keep finding the great finds like you have been

Rick

Nice showing Dave! I was thinking seal matrix on the ring at first, but they are usually engraved, very interesting indeed.

thanks Ted! Yes, nothing like big silver. I don't mind finding worn silver at all. The signals are more challenging on those. Alot of times the real worn silver skew down to penny signals so they are surprises when you seem them in the hold.

thanks Mark! I don't know what that item to the right of the watch is. I pulled 2 at 2 different sites in this post.
the Manticore is still second fiddle to my Deus 2. I just haven't used it enough yet. It really surprised me on a couple of dimes laying on iron.

thanks Rick! Yes, I will have to get more hours on the Manticore before I open my mouth about it too much. I did have an Equinox years ago and it has a lot of similarities, but Manticore is better, in my opinion. I think it is a little deeper also. It is balanced way better also.
Etrac had very good audio as that is the main reason I used it for all those years.
I think Manticore will go as deep as Etrac, you just have to get used to the audio. So far, I haven't pulled targets deeper than 3 bars so far but the sites I have tried it on have been hit so many times, it is hard to tell how fair of a test it was.
You definitely have to try it on an iron laden site as it will shine there as its separation is superior to Etrac.

thanks Mark! Manticore is good machine. I just need to get more hours on it to get to the level I am at with the Deus 2.
Boating to hit sites sounds fun.
Also, Great videos you posted. Nice!
