    Complete relic now

Finding one piece is great, finding the other is phenomenal!

    My better finds from October

That would be a good year of silver finds for me. I am in southwest Ohio too. Now I know why I’m not finding as much silver… 😂

Old Quarter, Tiny Dime and a Couple Interesting Toys

Wow, you have been busy. But with those kinds of finds, I can see why. What size coil did you use, was there a lot of trash, and were you using a stock program?

    Consecutive dates

Well, at least they were in consecutive order… 😆

    Pumpkin carving

Happy Halloween everyone! My kids carved the headless horseman and Snoopy this year. I did the starship Enterprise.

A button kind of day - update

Thanks! If it was a house, it was rather small. Someone suggested the chain might be from an old trap. So I’m wondering if maybe it was a one room trapper’s cabin.

A button kind of day - update

I made it back out to the site where I have found almost a dozen flat buttons (including one Tombac), some lead farm or communion tokens, and an 1822 large cent. The buttons just keep on coming. No coins this time, but another half dozen buttons including another Tombac (small), and a white...

    Are you using tekkna program?

I too have been using Tekkna as a primary program. I bumped the audio response a bit and fiddle with the reactivity as needed. It is quieter and more stable in iron, but is not as deep as some other programs which would give me a headache from constant use in iron. If I get a questionable...

Need help identifying large reddish rock

Sort of looks like a sandstone boulder to me. Perhaps more of a greywacke or “dirty” sandstone. This could explain the layering and flaking. The reddish coloration is exactly what you think it is – iron staining. But it’s doubtful there would be enough iron there to be detected with a magnet.

Gold ,silver ,and coal ? Check out these videos

When you say gold in the pan, is that just based on color or is it actually dense gold which settles in the bottom of the pan and tends not to move? It is not uncommon for pyrite to be in coal deposits. It may look like a metal but it’s actually a sulfide not an oxide. If you’ve done much...

New site (for me), old finds

Went out to a new local I read about in an old book. I figured I would knock on some doors and see if I could get some new permissions. One of the local residents gave me permission to hunt an old school. Of course, I brought my detector along just in case…😁 I thought my first find of the...

    Need help identifying

I would not expect to see that kind of banding in a bone fossil.

    Help identifying

A gneiss is a metamorphic rock where the original minerals have been subjected to enough temperature and pressure that they have re-crystallized to a different mineral. The color banding in your rocks is a good indicator. The presence of sheet silicates would indicate a lower metamorphic grade...

    Help identifying please

    Help identify please

If the orangish stuff flakes off in little flat shiny flakes then I would say muscovite or phlogopite. These are sheet silicates like biotite. The rock itself would probably be a low metamorphic grade gneiss.

Can you guys help me identify? MS pt digging for a stem cell transplant.

If it flakes off in a little shiny flakes when you scrape it, it is not gold. It would be muscovite or, more likely, phlogopite. These are both phyllosilicates (sheet silicates in the same family as biotite).

    A bit of trash...

I have had my D2 for about a year and a half and have been a little lax in cleaning out the trash bag I keep in the trunk. I don’t normally post many pictures of my trash so here it is all in one fell swoop. Of course there was more I dropped in available trash bins whenever my pouch would get...

What version are you guys running?

I am on 2.0 and have been since it came out. I think my detector had .71 when I got it, but I updated shortly thereafter. I understand 2.0 is better for small gold with the goldfield program, and stability may also have improved among other things.

Nice! Persistence paid off. Well done!
