    What kinda rock is this?

There is definitely some banding in it. Gneiss would be an option. I see somebody mentioned jet in another post, but that would be relatively soft and easy to scratch. The rounding and the shininess of the surface along with your next post (Portland area) makes me think basalt and flow...

Can anyone help me identify some of these ?

The silver sparkly one may be a mica schist or gneiss. A lot of the rest looks like quartzite. These are all metamorphic rocks. The reddish one might be jasper (igneous or sedimentary). The Portland area should be comprised primarily of Columbia River Basalt and some sedimentary rock. A lot...

    Any idea what this is?

Can you post a picture of the back? It looks like it was made to hold something with the tabs on top and bottom. But it also looks like there might of been a hole through it. My first look I was thinking pendant. But that loop looks thick for jewelry. At a second look I was wondering about a...

    Rock identification please

Looks like there might be an impression of a marine fossil on the surface of the smaller piece. So at a guess, I would say it might be a pillow basalt.

    Deus2: Unmasking & Deep Programs

Tekkna is apparently best suited for heavily iron infested sites. It can pull some extra non-ferrous items out of heavy trash. Aluminum can be an issue, and I understand it may be better suited for the 9 inch rather than any larger coils. Of course higher recovery speeds used in target dense...

    Help identifying

Hard to tell in this picture but my first guess would be limonite - a hydrated iron oxide.

An odd mixture of items and help requested from Civil War ammunition buffs

Thanks! My son was especially interested in the description of the Williams machine gun. With 65 1-pound balls per minute it would take a bit of iron to keep that thing stocked.

After a little cleaning I can tell it says Pennell Reel Co. Phila. Apparently a more common reel than Shakespeare…. The valve took a little bit more work. But I finally cleaned it up enough I can see it says Schrader universal valve Blkyn NY US Pat followed by a long number with mostly legible...

Thanks! Now that I know what to look for it appears to be for a model T wire wheel. It has has enough of the chrome plating left that I thought it was aluminum. But now that I look more closely I see reddish coloration showing through.

An odd mixture of items and help requested from Civil War ammunition buffs

I went out to a “new to me site” over the weekend and found a bit of an eclectic mixture of items. All these years of hunting and I have never found a silver quarter outside of a seeded hunt. So I am very pleased with the 47 Washington. This place apparently gets brush hogged occasionally and...

    Any ideas what this is?

I was going through my “not obvious trash but not obvious treasure“ pouch and pulled out both of these. After a little cleaning, I can tell the item on the left is a lamp wick holder. It says EF Jones patent May 4–55 Reissued Jan 11 59. The first year may actually be a 57. According to the...

    Need Identification

Almost looks like the tabs on the bottom were made to fit into something. Does there appear to be extra wear along the faces and bases of the tabs? For that matter, there appear to be two more tabs on top - one near the prone figure’s wrist and one broken tab at the same figure’s heel.

Any idea what this might be

My first thought was address plate too. But relative to your hand the numbers look too small to be seen from a road.

    My first 20 cent piece!

Now why oh why couldn’t it have been American? The color gave me a start for a second. Definitely not the standard run-of-the-mill US clad corrosion…

    What's this weird looking rock??

Looks like some sort of silicate void fill. When there is a hole in sediment or rock and silica rich water enters the hole, the drop in pressure causes some of the silica to precipitate on the surface of the hole. Over time, the hole will fill from the outside in, and you will have a cast in...

    Defense Plant Corp. tag

I have been digging zinc pennies at this site because I have found several IHPs, and was rewarded with another IHP - 1888. I certainly took a close look at the last eight. Unfortunately I can’t see any trace of a 7 under it. So it is not one of the valuable error coins from that year. ☹️...
