Excalibur rods stuck and now unstuck...secret weapon used.

Thank you for everyone's input on how to unstick a years worth of water hunting sand that gets between the aluminum upper rod and the fiberglass rod. I tried the hot/cold method. I tried the WD-40 I tried soaking it all night. I ended up pushing it all the way in and could not get it out. A car...

    Scoop handle pro and cons

Ok where do I start. 10 years ago I owned a Sun Spot scoop. I used a scythe "nib" handle on it and it worked great! After taking a big scoop of material up from the lake bottom, the round wood shaft ran perpendicular with my body, the handle was placed close to the stainless scoop for great...

    Why Analog??

Ok I'm from Mars and I just landed on Earth and have been surrounded by digital machine owners and then one day one of you visits me and reveals their inner most information in my secret chambers on "why analog". What glorious hidden knowledge would you share?

Give me your best method of separating a sand encrusted shaft.

I have an Excal and I want to separate the two rods for cleaning. Do I spray it with silicon to get it slippery, soak the rod in water or what?

Threw out my Excal coil cover and...

I gave the bottom of my coil 5 coats of the truck bed spray paint. I don't care as much of voiding my warrantee if that is even true as much as any interference the paint might cause IF it has any magnetic or metal properties. I guess I'll find out.

Where to connect a float on the Excal 2.

I own an Excal 2 and tricked it out with the upgraded rod that places the control housing further up the rod so it balances better. However last season I shorted out my Gray Ghost waterproof headphones at the connecting end because I kept pulling on the unit by the headphones cord after I dug a...

Cleaning the Excals connecting rods or not

Love the Excalibur. I've hunted in fresh water with my "tricked" Excal 2 for about one season. I examined this morning the place where the two rods connect and it won't budge. I've owned them in the past and I've had the same thing happen. Now for me to disconnect the two rods each time I...

compass detectors possess some kind of magic

Been detecting for 20 years but I never owned a Compass. Now as a chance result of following a rogue link I see there is a fan base for the older Compass detectors and even claiming the detectors can go as deep as the best today, maybe even deeper. Let's here what you all know about this...

    GPS and Treasure Hunting

Is it possible to hunt and track with a GPS. If I have an acre of land in a wooded hilly area. Is it possible to hunt 1/3 and keep track where you where, plot it and then come back to the site and continue the search hunting another 1/3 and plot that to a map and continue doing this till...

Dry beach vs. wet vs. water

Like to hear your take on dry vs. wet vs. in the water. Now I know the wet beach was underwater during high tide but look at low tide and beyond the wet into the water as the standard here for all you ocean hunters. For me and lakes its dry and water. Books will tell you that ankle deep...

In Search of the Perfect Sifter

Ok water hunting fans. Some of us used to use sifters, some currently do and others have been thinking about it and the newbies need to know about them to decide where they stand. In the late 90's I had a sifter made of two halves of styrofoam cut 2'x2' with the square center cut out with...

    Crafting the perfect water scoop

Bought this scoop last year. Placed magnets on each side, inside the scoop. Boy I'm either getting older or this was just too heavy. So this year I took off the magnets (-1lbs.) and now the stock scoop with my new Neodymium magnets firmly glued in with silicon weighs about 6.5 lbs. It feels...

It's Garrett's time, but will they heed the call?

I want to see Garrett back on the throne. Seems like Whites and Minelab have taken steps to bring the latest in technology to the newer designs of their detectors. Even if Garrett upgraded their chips or computer in the GTI 2500 or something it would be great. I've always loved the GTI...

Wave action reading: What does this mean.

As I was hunting Ontario Lake the waves were coming in pretty good. I counted the seconds between each set as they passed me. Here is what I observed. Waves were coming in every 2-3 seconds. The larger ones were every other one. From your beach site reading experience, what does this tell...
