    Apex and Bottle Caps

Bottle caps can sound/read like a good target, but with iron audio on it is easy to tell on most bottle caps. Just wiggle the coil (tight movements) back and as the coil comes off the edge (of the target) you will hear the iron grunt. The downfall to using that method is the potential to lose...

What's your set up for hunting trashy area's

I very seldom have the luxury of hunting an area that isn't trashy. 1. Slow and methodical. Even when using machines with very fast recovery speeds. Overlap my swings. 2. Hunt the same area multiple times, from multiple directions. 3. Remove some of the trash each time I hunt the location. I...

    v3i lost password

The password on my V3i (back when I still owned it) contained only 1 letter and no numbers.

Who goes swimming; CTX3030 or Nox800

Which machine still has warranty? That's the machine I'd use in the water. No warranty on either? The nox is considerably less expensive, so it would get the nod (were I facing the decision).

Whats a F-70 going for this days

Not that I have any knowledge to this regard, but a new F70 can be had for $299 (with 2 coils) if you search with the right words; making me think that a used F70 is worth quite a bit less than $299.

Apex vs. Ace 400 and AT Pro

That can be said of just about every metal detector ever made, and pretty much every company that has ever made metal detectors.

Apex vs. Ace 400 and AT Pro

I have the Viper coil and the Ripper coil [5X8]. I use the Ripper coil the most - because I mostly hunt in very trashy locations. I do like both coils.

Apex vs. Ace 400 and AT Pro

For me I do believe the Apex is a better choice than the AT Pro. I did own an MX Sport - believing it too was a better machine (for me) than the AT Pro. Of course it helped that I had other Whites machines and was familiar with the way Whites machines operate. I ended up selling most of the...

Apex vs. Ace 400 and AT Pro

Do you have another coil for the 400? If you do, try using that coil to see if it falses too. If it does then it could be a problem with the 400. If not, the problem could well be the coil. It might be worth the time to contact Garrett even though your 400 is out of warranty. Among the...

Apex vs. Ace 400 and AT Pro

You might want to contact Garrett about your 400. You could have a coil issue. There were some early reports of coil issues with the Apex. From what I've read, Garrett replaced those coils and that ended the falsing problem. I have not experienced a falsing issue with my Apex.

    Update for the Apex

The version number will come up (on the screen) briefly when you first turn the machine on. It will not harm your machine to do the update - even if you have the latest version. I verified that with Garrett - just to make sure (I was curious).

    Apex Pairing--Help

Turn headphones on. Then turn Apex on. Keep headphones close to Apex. If the headphones don't pair automatically, scroll through menu to get to the headphones icon. Then press the + button to pair headphones.

    Apex vs. AT Pro

I swung an AT Pro for maybe 30 seconds some five years ago, and I've never seen a Nox in person. So I can't tell you how the Apex would compare to either of those machines. With that many targets in the ground (signals driving you crazy) I doubt any machine will get a lot of depth. The Apex...

Thank you to Richard (Backwoods metal detectors)

Richard has always provided top notch customer service along with excellent prices. Somehow he managed to top even that in our latest deal and he went well beyond all reasonable expectations. I strongly encourage all to contact Richard if you're in the market for anything metal detecting...

    Whites TRX

$254 for a TRX - that's crazy. I have two TRX's. One that I use and one that is new in the box (never been out of the box). I like the TRX well enough that I wouldn't sell either of them for $254 so maybe the price isn't as crazy as it seems.

45 cents, a Coke can, two 7 year olds, and the Apex

Across the street (from my property) is a wooded area that is probably 3-4 acres in size. For 30 years or so the local kids have used the property as a playground of sorts, so there are trails and bike paths meandering throughout the woods. Street-side there is about 12 feet of grass/weeds...
