Shooter DD4x6- How high is too high?

As already mentioned, the %number is not "signal loss" but rather the residual signal level. If the loop doesn't overload, it's fine. A lower number won't give you more depth. Most of the loops I hunt with are customer returns that work perfectly well. - Carl

What does the "factory upgrade" for the VX3 do?

Eh, I was gently reminded with a dope slap that the audio processor is on the Pod board, not the DAQ board. So the DAQ board has a single processor that runs all the TX/RX circuitry. - Carl

What does the "factory upgrade" for the VX3 do?

The VX3 has had no software upgrades. The so-called daughterboard is not a daughterboard; it is what we call the "DAQ board" (data acquisition) and has 2 processors on it, one for running the TX/RX ciruitry and one for audio. It is exactly the same DAQ board and exactly the same processor code...

    Advanced Manual

Hi RD, I don't blame ya one bit, Carl has a lotta folks waiting. Unfortunately, I'm also trying to wrap up a book (not on V3, sorry) that's been 10 yrs in the works, and I need to stay focused on that til its done. Then I got a couple of user manuals that have to be written. Then maybe back to...

Does anyone know if the V3 is a true Multi-frequency machine or is it a three frequency machine?

Albert, All the MF detectors I mentioned have common design features: 1) a transmit signal that combines 2 or 3 frequencies 2) a received signal that has also has combined frequency information 3) the received signal is then separated into individual frequency "channels" 4) each channel has...

Does anyone know if the V3 is a true Multi-frequency machine or is it a three frequency machine?

We certainly check out the competition, but that doesn't always include a thorough dissection & reverse engineering. Don't got time for that. I vaguely recall that the Etrac TX waveform was the same as the Sov/Explorer, but I won't put money on it. - Carl

Does anyone know if the V3 is a true Multi-frequency machine or is it a three frequency machine?

CZ, Sovereign, Explorer, Etrac, DFX, and V3 are all multifrequency. All of them transmit a digital waveform; the easiest is the CZ which uses a simple 5kHz square wave and derives a weaker 15kHz 3rd harmonic from it, so it's a 2F detector. The DFX is also a 2F detector but uses a complex digital...

    Fake detectors

Hard to discuss the issues of fake detectors without pointing out the issues of the Bigger Picture. In any case, there are definitely fake detectors out there. In the case of White's, we have not seen any make it into the US, other than the units we personally bought to inspect. I have heard...

    Is your Whites genuine?

I agree that shareholder demand for more stock value drives decisions to cut labor cost -- that's a benefit in working for a private company where the shareholders (owners) are more concerned about their workforce than their personal wealth -- but, ultimately, it's in the hands of the consumer...

    Is your Whites genuine?

Mike, This is a topic that I'm especially sensitive to. For 21 years I worked for major chip companies and watched those chip companies send all manufacturing jobs overseas, laying off many of my friends in the process. When White's advertised a job opening I was ready to jump at it just for...

Lets see who we are post your picture.:starwars::surprised::twodetecting:

It's true, Anne doesn't really look like this. She denies it, but is a classic Left Coast Hippie. Here's a pic of me on a recent backpacking trip.

    V3i for Prospecting?

Dean, On my 3-grain nugget, using the same 6x10DD, both the MXT and the V3i (on 22.5kHz) will give a positive signal at about 2.5". I recall the V3i doing a little better than the MXT on larger nuggets. MXT might have a slight edge with AutoTrac, V3i has a definite edge with salt cancel. V3i...

Bad coil test .... yes again!!!

It's true that I've instructed UK to test V-loops at Rx=15 and TXB=off. As we've gotten more long-term data on our V-nulled loops it has become apparent that nulls are shifting slightly over time. This results in loops that may overload at Rx=15 and TXB=on. Replacing a loop is usually only a...

    No depth on coins

I don't know how much memory is left, as I didn't write the software. Future mods depend on a lot of things, and right now we have no plans for another round. - Carl
