    Upgrading my Car

If I stick these onto my Ford ... ... ... will it become a luxury car? Cheers, Joe

    The Most Unusual Day

With more than 28 years in this hobby, today was the most unusual day. I was in a downtown area. It's an older neighborhood with some homes going back to the 1890s, and most from the1910s and 1920s. I was going over some curb strips by an old sidewalk. Nothing much there, mostly modern...

    Keys and Bullets

These came up in city parks during the last month of the year, along with some Wheat cents and the usual zincs and clads. I always think that a key has a story behind it, when the person needed the key, reached into his pocket, and it wasn't there anymore. Question ... Why would a guy carry a...

    CoinStar Scores

Today I cashed in some clads and zinc memorial cents into the local supermarket's CoinStar machine. After keeping its 10%, it gave me back $3.18 in cash. That's a new battery for the Omega, and a cuppa coffee for me. - - - On the "minus" side, it ate a badly corroded clad quarter that I put...

A Tale of Two Dimes and Two Keys

These came out of a parking lot for a city park. They were found with the Omega 8000. - - - The two dimes were about 20 feet apart, and both were about 4 inches down. This is how they looked when they came up. The 1951 silver is shiny and clean, just like on the day when it got dropped...

    Backplate for a Knob?

Out with the Omega at the ground site of an old building (late 1800s) that was torn down and taken away. It's just a vacant lot there now. It's bronze. Maybe it's a backplate for a fancy knob on a cabinet drawer or door? It was about 4 inches down. Any ideas? Joe

    Four Days, Four Parks

Taking advantage of the cool mornings and fresh air, in some small parks. Strategy for Florida in July (no kidding): ... start out early and find the shady places, because in the afternoon it's going up to 102 degrees. Come to think of it ... if the shady places are good today for swinging...

Wheaties and Some Wisdom About Ducks

Out in an old park for two hours this morning with the Omega. Beautiful day, and no EMI. The two Wheat Cents are 1910 and 1951. The 1910 was about 4 inches down, and the 1951 was at 3 inches. The 1910 is almost toast, so it must have been there a long time. The other pennies and the dimes...

    Two Easy Ones

Nothing special here -- just sometimes you get lucky. I was out doing some curb strips. The quarter was just waiting, right there. Then while searching about 30 farther along the strip, the Omega showed a high number about 4 inches down. I dug, probed with the pinpointer, and found the...

    Cashed in Some Coins

After detecting, everything gets cleaned. The vintage, silver and "collectible" coins get saved. These are the leftovers. Today they got cashed in, and dumped into the CoinMaster sorter. Total of $10.87 in cash, coming back. They're about half and half from the Garrett GTI2500 and the...

    A Day with the GTI2500

Doing some curb strips with the GTI2500. The "Shell" tag is bronze (for car keys?). On the back it has a place for the owner to put a social security number for ID, so it can be returned if found. (Nobody would do that nowadays.) The aluminum token has an elephant on one side and a bucking...

    A Day with the Omega

Doing some curb strips with the Omega (version 6). The coins are clad, but they'll buy a new battery. The button is bronze with a "mother-of-pearl" inlay. The men's ring is .925 silver. The large piece looks like a jumbo earring (just cosmetic). Also came up with a copper ferrule and a...

    Mudlarking at Low Tide

Great article: http://www.bbc.com/news/in-pictures-39365669 That lead seal is spectacular. Any tidal rivers like that in the USA? Cheers, Joe

    German Messerschmitt found in Denmark

A kid listened to his grandpa's WWII story ... went out with a metal detector ... and found a Messerschmitt: http://www.newser.com/story/239475/boy-with-metal-detector-hits-wwii-era-jackpot.html?utm_source=iheart&utm_medium=referral http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-39196106 Wow! Joe

    Any Luck with Bluetooth?

Has anyone had success with Bluetooth earphones? I tried some with two detectors: Garrett GTI2500, and Teknetics Omega 8000. I connected a miniature Bluetooth transmitter to the detector's earphones socket. The Bluetooth headphones linked to it perfectly. The problem is the Bluetooth time...

    Sometimes, Junk Brings a Smile

Amid all the junk items ... Gotta admit, that crushed bottle cap (Corona beer) came up with a smile.

    A Good Weekend

A weekend in Jacksonville, Florida. Good days with the Omega. Lots of pulltabs, sharp can slaw, and bottle caps on broken glass. Also some clad, and a dogtag. Also a plastic decoration, found on the surface. Then up comes a Minie ball, about 6 inches down. It came in at 51 on the Omega...
