    5 Silver Day

Took off this morning for an 80 mile trip (each way) to a spot in a very old little town that I thought held great potential. It was junk city. They must have spread the contents of an old burned house across the whole area. All I found was clad. Star found clad, a pocket watch, and an old...

I Finally Got Out Today And Only Found 2 Cents,

I finally had a chance to get out this morning and walk a field for a couple hours. I only found 2 one cent coins but I'm still happy with them. One was a 53 and the other was a 63.

Star and I were in a small town today in Western Illinois. This town was established around 1830. We were looking at a large open area right against the old business district with signs of several foundations and thinking, wow, what an awesome spot to detect. We decided to find a local resident...

    Tot Lot Bonanza

Star and I went to a local grade school Sunday to try our luck. The school dates back to 1877. I've hunted it for 40 years and still usually come home with at least a few wheat cents. You could see dig marks all over the school yard from at least two people. One was using a screwdriver and one...

I Think I've Found A New Treasure Hunting Hobby

About 30 years ago an old man was telling me that there was gold in the creeks around Central Illinois. His stories were interesting but I shrugged them off as tall tales until I recently did a little research on gold in Illinois. It seems that the glaciers brought down gold and even rubies...

Some Recent Finds But Not With A Metal Detector

Star and I recently took a day trip to Western Illinois to dig for geodes. It was hot, hot, hot, digging in the pit but we came home with a good selection of geodes. Yesterday we cracked a few of them. Some of the crystals we found inside include quartz, calcite, farro dolomite, blue barite, and...
