    Anyone used a Monopod before?

I have been thinking about buying a tripod for a while, but because I like getting out and hiking I am thinking a mono pod might be better suited for my uses. A mono pod, if you don't know, is basically a pole that holds a camera, hence the name mono pod. Many mono pods are also hiking poles...

    A mural in town.:O

In my town's downtown there are quite a few murals painted onto the sides of buildings and walls. Many are of the towns history, while some are about nearby places such as Yosemite and Native American history in the region. There are 4-5 that run along a wall next to the library that I had never...

Kelley, I have been wondering for some time.....

why there are basically 2 photo forums here. There is this one, and then the photo's of you, photo's of me forum. The other one barely seems to get any traffic. This one appears to do much better. Has there been any discussion of joining the 2 into 1? Just the Digital Photography Forum? Seems...

Some more photos from around the Sierra Nevadas from 2012

I was looking through my photo albums on the PC and decided to upload a few from last year. The first 3 are from Yosemite Valley. I took them while attempting to hike the 6.5 mile valley half loop trail. I was unable to finish the hike, partially because of the many photos I took, and partially...

    Considering buying my first DSLR.

I have been considering for quite some time to buy a entry level DSLR (think Canon T3, Nikon D3100). I have spent the last 5-6 years using 4 digital cameras, although currently 3 of the 4 have a problem or do not work. My first camera was a Argus 3 megapixel camera, which I used for taking...

    Terracotta Warriors

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to be able to go on a college field trip to San Francisco's Asian Art Museum. The trip was planned to coincide with the Terracotta Warriors display at the museum. The museum not only covers Chinese art from ancient times, but also ancient art from Japan, the...

    Half Dome

Of course, who can resist taking photos of Half Dome while in Yosemite? Although it is not the largest granite monolith in the valley, it is by far the most recognizable. All 6 photos were taken on Sentenial Bridge (I believe that is the name), with the Merced River flowing beneath. The first 2...

    Oh, how I enjoy flowers!

I found some very nice flowers to take photos of while in Yosemite. Ironnically, these flowers (which I presume are native to the valley) were planted in pots in front of Ansel Adams photo gallery and store. I would imagine many others took photos of these beautiful flowers while they were blooming.

    The Day Trip to Yosemite

Having finally finished the college semester and gotten my first job, I have time to post this now about a month later. The weather on the day we went up to Yosemite (May 5) was cloudy for the majority of the day, but eventually began to clear up towards the end of the day. The first...

    SD cards and their sizes.

AKA SD, SDHC, SDXC, microSD, or does your camera have a built in memory system? As for my cameras, they all either use SD or SDHC cards. The 4 that I have are 512 MB SD, 1 GB SD, 2 GB SD, and 8 GB SDHC. So, what SD cards does your camera(s) use and its size?

Will be in Yosemite in a few weeks.

It will be a field trip required for my college geology class. Should be a great trip, although I am not sure what the weather will be like. Will have to check as it gets closer. This will be my first time up into the Sierras this yr. Of course, with any mandatory college field trip there is...

    Photos of our property

I took these photos last fall before the first rains of winter. The trees in the photos are California Oaks, and are able to survive months without rain. The flower is some sort of weed. The first two photos are high saturation photos, while the others are regular saturation. All were taken...

Ice Cold Gold- Coming to Animal Planet April 21

Discovery has decided to add gold prospecting to its ever increasing "Animal" Planet Tv channel. From the looks of the commercial, it is likely to be another Gold Rush style show, except with a polar bear threatening their very survival. HH and GL

    Some ducks.... and geese:O

I have been meaning to take some photos of the ducks and geese at the college I attend. My college goes with the giant park theme, with quite a large portion of it open grassy area. There are also a few artificial streams that run through the campus, eventually dumping into man-made ponds...

Been meaning to post some new photos on the forum...

but with the SDHC card I used to take them I can only upload them onto the computer at our other house, which I don't get out to often. I have some interesting (to me at least) photos of our property that I took earlier this year that I will have to upload next time I get over there. Just wanted...

Anyone ever tried prospecting a seasonal natural drainage in CA's motherlode?

We have some property right on the edge of the Mother Lode in California's Sierra Nevada's foothills. The property has a seasonal drainage running through a part of it. The drainage is natural and starts at a higher elevation a few properties away from ours. The way I understand gold...
