Looking back on a GREAT season - before 20" of snow...

What an amazing few months I have experienced with the ETRAC. Thanks to everyone for their advice. I have attached new pictures of a few of the very old items I managed to find - note that the coppers and the nickels get thoroughly destroyed in the crop fields: 2 - British George II...

Hard to believe it - BUT - another "UN-REALES" find...:wiggle:

As some of you may have read last week, I came across a very interesting find in a trashy pumpkin patch - a 1759 eight reales cut in half (as was the custom in those days).... Well, I have been trying to get out again before the sub freezing temperature finishes off the land detecting season...

Amazing find in trashy pumpkin patch...anything is possible

Last Friday I had a couple of hours to kill so I stopped by this trashy pumpkin patch that sits on a main road not far from my house. From my old map research it appears this 3 acre property has been farmed since settlement began and sits surrounded by developed lots. I'm sure it's been pounded...

Old NY farm continues to deliver...silver and copper:super:

Was again fortunate enough to go back to the fields that have delivered the old 1730's British copper and the 1818 Coronet Large Cent. I was pleased that all three of us got both silver and copper. The silver cleaned up real well - it's a Capped Bust half-dime 1829 - my oldest silver to date...

Was hoping for my first Big copper - got that and MORE.....

This is a story most of us can only dream about...pictures will follow when the finds get properly cleaned up...... First a little background: Long Island, NY has a settlement history that dates back to the mid 1600's, with both Revolutionary War and Civil War action. Most of the tracts of land...

1865 IH penny & old nickle - cleaning advice?

Went back to an old farm where I found an 1880 Canadian dime in VF condition a few weeks ago. This farm has been a farm forever here on Long Island but history shows it became a much more active farm in 1880 when it was bought by the current ownership. Junk everywhere makes selecting targets...

Back to the old farm...IH + old nickle - need coin cleaning advice

Went back to that old farm where I found that 1880 dime a few weeks ago. Again, this farm has been a farm forever here on Long Island but history shows it became a much more active farm in 1880 when it was bought by the current ownership. Junk everywhere makes selecting targets tricky - at...

Finds for first 3 hunts with the E-Trac

finally figured out how to get a picture the right size to upload the large buckle and star pin plus the 1880 Canadian dime were found on my first hunt - it was a farm for the last 300+ years - with permission the smaller buckle and the 2 merc's were found at a 3 acre site with 75+ year old...

Does anyone dig any FE numbers over 13?

still learning and don't want to pass on some good stuff. probably been wasting some time digging the lower FE with the mid CO numbers, like the FE 8-10 and CO 10-22... when do you guys pass on targets and does the depth make you think twice?

third time out with the E-Trac, now silver 2 out of 3 hunts

Picked up 2 Merc's today, 1941 in good shape and 1932 in bad shape after a 3 hour hunt at an old (circa 1930's) abandoned house nearby on 3 acres that's listed for sale. That makes it a 2 out of 3 silver streak after scoring that 1880 Canadian dime on my first time out. Pictures to follow when i...

    E-Trac battery charge question

had my E-Trac battery charging (only the second time charging since initial charge) for about 3 days. after swinging for an hour one bar on the scale out of the 4 was already gone... does the battery take a few charge-up's to get to the point where it shows the 4 full bars after a good 2 day...

A "Real" hunt with my new E-Trac (and new friend) gets an old silver coin...

I love this forum - WHY... Because I make a $$ offer for someone to help me out with some practical E-Trac training, and I get a response from TonyC (who happens to live quite close by) who has been hunting for over 25 years - and now has 2 E-Trac's in his arsenal. Tony agrees to meet me but...

Any E-Trac'ers from Long Island or Westchester area - i have a proposition...

I am primarily a beach hunter with an Excal (since this June) and have found great stuff. The ease of use plus the many great videos posted have helped me master that machine. I just recently got the E-Trac (my first land machine) and have gone out just a few times (maybe 3 hours total). I...

    To anyone considering an E-Trac...

i strongly recommend the X-1 probe. it will be the best $200 you will ever spend. thanks to everyone here for recommending it. without it i would be going nuts... i'm getting at least 2-3" of depth and with the headphones on it's a really efficient way to detect. finding targets at 8-10"...
