    S*E*A*T*E*D!!!!!! (and more!)

Today was the day. After 20 years of detecting. It's ugly, but dangit, it's my goal coin for this year and it's all mine. Those of you who know me well know how badly I wanted a seated coin this year and how great this day is for me. My detecting buddy Suzanne was out at the park earlier in the...

    Stampede!!!

Got out for a bit yesterday and today. Gorgeous weather and there's too much work and not enough daylight! Yesterday I picked up the golf ball charm, silver "Prep" crescent and 1911 and 1940-S wheats. Today was nickel day (not on purpose, that's just how it happened!)... three buffalos -...

    Halloween Weekend Finds

Went to a park that has been very nice to me lately with two or more silver every time I've gone. Funny because it's a park at least five other of my detecting friends and others have all hunted well. I guess the place just likes me. :detecting: There I got the 1964 quarter, and that sucker was...

    Lucky Day

Friday after work I stopped over at heavily hunted old park. We've had a few group outings here and I think everyone in the area knows how hard it is to hunt and find good old targets. I remember one COMDA (Central Ohio Metal Detecting Association) hunt there where Dan (OhioCoinHunter) doggedly...

    This getting dark earlier business...

I'm not a fan! I had just a short time to hunt before the darkness descended yesterday. I went to another old park in Columbus to see if I could scare up another Indian head for my treasure chest and it actually ended up being quite a good hunt. I was disgusted to find sloppy holes from...

    Short hunt after work

45 minutes in the park, man was it hot! Two wheats (1925, 1935), a very rusty 1942 dime and cool shard of pottery.

    Here and there

Suzanne and I dodged the rain for a bit yesterday at two parks. I found a few wheats and the 1943-P war nickel at the first park and at the second park I found the *surprise* 1944 quarter (with rusty iron) it came in as a shallow 10-43 signal on the E-Trac (which explains why I may not have dug...

    Indians! Four in one!

Got out for about 45 minutes today at the park. I dug four wheaties (1927, 1936, 1941, 1946, 1951-S) and then hit one of the most awesome eight cent pocket spills I've ever found. Four Indian head pennies and four wheats in one hole. The Indians were 1884, 1895, 1903 and 1905. The wheats...

    Quarters littered the ground...

I got tired of digging them, really. Suzanne and I were at a school and the place was a wasteland of quarters. She had at least 24 quarters, a 1967 half dollar and I dug 37 quarters, 14 dimes, 3 nickels and 7 Memorial pennies... but 12 wheats! Weird place. I also got a 1944 dime and a small...

Two dimes, same date, same hole - different designs.

Stopped at the bank and picked up a 40% silver 1968-D half, then got out for a bit today and got three silver dimes and three wheats. The cool thing about the two different 1916 dimes (no mintmarks) is they were in one hole!

    Milestone surpassed by one

Thought the 1947 dime I found today was silver #50 for the year, but upon counting found that it was actually #51. Number 50 was a rough looking 1953 dime. Still hitting the same old parks and schools and the E-Trac manages to squeak out a few more. No doubt it is tougher this year, and much...

Central Ohio Metal Detecting Association 4/17/2010 Meeting Report

Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting and pitching in for the cleanup. I was really impressed with enthusiasm and the amount of trash we picked up, and I know I put some broken glass that was on one of the athletic fields in my bag. The winner of the trash cleanup raffle got an Association...

I got a shave and a haircut... not two bits!

Two Barber coins, a 1903 V nickel and a 1912-D dime. The dime being part of a silver dime trifecta... Barber, 1917 Mercury and a 1960 Roosevelt! Met up with a friend at at park just as the rain came in. We got soaked, and of course 5 minutes later it was all over. Slightly soggy we kept at...

Awesome 1834 campaign flat button, three rings, silver coins!

My detecting buddy made me do some research and I came up with a site or two close-ish to work. The first one was an old school site, now a park. Once we found the sweet spots, I was digging nothing but old coins. Lots of wheats, a 1944 quarter and a 1951-D dime, and two silver rings. She got...

    Saturday's hunt

Enjoyed the great weather with my friend Dave and hit a few places (parks) we had been before, but different areas. A little over a buck in clad and these keepers. A nice scalloped edge aluminum token and a 1920s era Menter Clothing Co. token. Two silver dimes, 1946 and 1956-D.

    First hunt of 2010

Squeezed in an hour long park hunt in the balmy 48 degree weather. I turned up a little bunch of keepers. After some experiments in the fall, I changed some discrimination settings on the E-Trac to try to get more nickels. Looks like that worked as expected, and it also reduced a lot of chatter...

Apparently on this forum we have a lot of helpful and thoughtful people using a great detector!

It's funny because I know many of us actually do say some bad things about Minelab, but we discuss it and try to find solutions. I am impressed with how helpful and great so many people have been on this forum. The recent troll postings rather than starting a flame war, instead engendered pages...

2009 Year in Review (or Why the E-Trac is awesome)

Well, I was out on Dec. 31 in the cold and snow looking for silver coin #300. I came home with a pocket of clad, that last one was just too elusive. Hopefully this is not a sign of what's to come in 2010! So, now I take stock and look back at a really fabulous year of detecting thanks to the...

    Nickel experiment, Part 2

This worked well! I got what I knew was there... old nickels! 1936 buffalo, 1942 nickel, 1949, 2-1960, etc... This is a follow up to the experiment I did the other day http://www.findmall.com/read.php?63,1101884 The ratio of trash to nickels was much better. The only tweak I could see is...
