Pull tab park and nickels, experiment and observations

Most of these conversations I start about nickels either get no responses or a bunch of defensive talk about how the E-Trac finds plenty of nickels. In less trashy sites, I'm sure picking out nickel signals is a breeze, and if you run wide open and "dig all" I'm sure that works too. I've found...

Second large cent in two weeks...

After 19 years of finding none, now I have two large cents! No special site or anything, just my local park. How about that? Still digging around someone else's recent holes, obviously I have nothing to worry about. :detecting: Back at the park again, digging iffy, terrible signals in the...

    Big copper! FINALLY!

It's taken many years for one of these to turn up under my coil. A quick spin at the park after work and I got this sweet 1820! My first large cent and new "oldest coin" It was a few feet away from another detectorist's plug and in ground I've been over a million times before. You just never...

Anyone using the V3 in Ohio?

Anyone? Anyone? I thought for sure someone would jump on this. :surprised: We can't all be using Minelabs!

Anyone using the V3 in Ohio?

I am looking for someone using the V3 in Ohio who has a good number of hours on the machine. I would like to publish your review of the detector, pictures of finds, etc. in an upcoming issue of Ohio Metal Detecting Magazine. You don't need to be a great writer, but if you can rough out the...

    Miss me?

I've been sick and busy, a bad combo for detecting time, especially when paired with the early darkness! I snuck in a few short hunts recently, but yesterday was the first time I got out for a decent amount of time. One hunt I got just a few targets, wheats and memorials and one 1941-D dime...

Milestone reached and a best bested

A beautiful day for detecting today, after a good amount of needed rain. Went park hunting today with Steve (daytondigger) and Manny. We all got silver. Started at 9 and went until 5 with a short break for lunch. Bested my best day for silver by one... got 17 today. Four quarters, 13 dimes...

    What's so special about 235?

235 is the number of silver coins I found from 1990-2006. In other words, pre-Minelab days... the dark ages when barely a glint of silver was there to brighten my days. I have found as many silver coins in a little over seven months as I had in 16 years! Even more shocking is that most...

    Last years and $20

Got the last year for silver dimes and wheat cents in today's evening digs. I didn't expect much today, but after the first silver dime the rest came easy. I was lucky to be somewhere where I could hunt in the dark, as I was not ready to leave when the sun set. The Sun Ray probe makes night...

40 cents in silver, 10 wheats and 10 groschen

More park hunting, hit a few spots I've been before in past years, but have not hit hard with the E-Trac. Four silver dimes, 1920-D, 1944, 1946, 1962-D; ten assorted wheats, oldest 1919, 1928, 1930. Aluminum 1965 Austrian 10 groschen and two Sunoco antique car tokens.

$1.05 in silver, the easy way

Ok, so maybe it can be done more easily, but I was just thinking it was about time for me to dig some silver other than dimes! That thinking paid off in a "big" way today with the 1941 half, 1950 quarter and 1941, 1950 and 1951D dimes. Eleven wheats, a religious medallion and a very cruddy...

Why aren't you or your club a member of the FMDAC? (looking for feedback)

Seeing the increased possibilities of restrictions to detecting (a ban is proposed in Clay County, Florida right now  ), now more than ever, membership in the FMDAC (Federation of Metal Detector and Archaeological Clubs) is important. I want to hear what everyone's personal...

    198, 199, 200, 201, 202!

Well, I didn't expect to be out digging yesterday, but there I was. Same old park as yesterday. Sure am liking this weather! First solid hit to be dug was the 1964 dime, so that gave me a little more motivation. Next was a 1944 dime next to the remains of a tree stump. The signal was high and...

Cincinnati Civil War era token, indian and silver

Hit an old park and got the CW token, 1917 dime and some teens wheats. In the afternoon hit another park and got 1889 indian and three dimes 1939, 1940 and 1954D along with some assorted wheats.

Every cloud has a silver lining...

Out between the pop up showers at the park this afternoon and dodging dog poo, I picked up 14 wheats and 3 silver dimes... 1944, 1947 and 1956. Also a basketball charm and a chrome plated bar pin.

Only dug 5 coins today, but only 2 are interesting...

Another 1903 dime, but this one's a 1903-O, and 1880 indian. Both hit nice and solid on the E-Trac. I chased some trash signals, but at least in this one spot, if it's good, the signal is nice. The dime was CO 44/45 and the cent was CO 33/34.

    An evening in the park(s)...

First park = 2 wheats and a 1943 dime Second park = 1930 wheat and a nice little pocket spill with three coins that have been together in the hole a long time... 1903 dime, 1890 indian head cent, 1904 nickel. The three coins were tightly sandwiched together and came up as 11-31 on the E-Trac. I...

    A technique I didn't even realize I was using...

I didn't even realize that I was doing this until I had occasion to think about it. When I get a weak or brief signal that does not repeat very well, I flip to the VCO pinpoint, find the center of the target and THEN switch back and swing over it and see what kind of signal I get when I am over...

Want to see an INCREDIBLE coin?

So, my wheat count hasn't been that great lately, and I have a 1000 goal for the year, figured with a little time I could add a few. Went to an older park today this morning and dug a shield nickel at 2.5 inches, along with a bunch of clad. Took a break for lunch and decided to head back over...
