Anyone finding gold in parks full of pulltabs?

In reading the forum I came across several users commenting that tabs read differently from gold. Sounds like the VDIs and sounds are the same, but the graph shows red for the tabs and blue for the gold. If this is consistent and can be duplicated in the ground (not just air test), this is a...

Sensitivity and wet ground... an observation

We've had a lot of rain here, keeping the ground moist. I've been using the E-Trac in auto sensitivity (would run about 18-23 range) and finding silver, wheats and indians. All good until yesterday. I hit some sites, even one I had pulled silver from just the previous day and another site...

    Steel cent with E-Trac

In the hole sandwiched with another wheatie. I've dug two before, so once I saw it I knew what it was. :wiggle: The signal was all over the place, large and hard to pinpoint, but the CO 42 kept popping up and I had been digging wheaties up to this point and very little trash, so I needed to...

    E-Trac silver today

Finally got the E-Trac setup the way I like it. Took some tinkering, not as obvious as one would think. Basically, it sounds like my Explorer now, so it's easy to hunt by tones. Plus, I can switch between the two without much hassle. The E-Trac hit nice and locked on the coins nice and solid...

    E-Trac auto sensitivity vs. Explorer

I have been running 27-29 sensitivity on my Explorer, with excellent results, lots of deep stuff. I took the E-Trac out today in auto sensitivity and it was running 18-19, and no deep signals of any kind. I was super surprised. Will be trying manual sens set higher next time and see what happens.

    Awesome day!

Tied my best silver day with 6 in a three-hour after work hunt. Tried so hard for #7, but it got too dark. The heavy sterling ring as a nice bonus too. :detecting:

    "Gain" and "Deep On"

After reading some of Andy's book last night, I am left with the impression that a high "Gain" setting and "Deep On" do the same thing. I know this has been covered before. The function is that the machine amplifies sounds of quieter targets. I prefer to not use gain, as I would like to hear...

Help with settings for a particular site...

I was at a park out of town today, nice and old. The area was fairly clear of targets, probably detected pretty regularly through the years. I was hoping for a nice old silver dime, but it was not to be. I dug a few super deep targets... three 1919 wheaties (@#$% why couldn't one have been at...

Three silver quarters in one hole!

Checked out a town about an hour away. I had some research on a few sites to check out. Obviously I was not the first one here, and some of the dirt had been moved around. I was hoping I'd have a 7 silver day to beat my best day of 6. I came close with 5. Also scored an 1899 indian and a...

Messing with Gain and Variability or Limits... or maybe Response?

I think my gain was set at 8. I lowered it to 7. My understanding is that gain makes weak signals louder. This sounds great, except my perception is that it makes loud signals louder as well. Any ideas about how I can make that memorial penny at 1" less of a blast without sacrificing...

Got the Pro coil today... I like it!

Two silver dimes and a buffalo nickel in a hard-hunted little park. I was kinda suprised, actually. I've gridded this park several times over 15 years. One spot I even took and dug EVERY metal signal with my CZ-5. These coins hit nice and solid and were deep - plugs the length of my Lesche...

Tell me about your nickels. I'm not gettin 'em...

There was a post a two months back about nickels. It inspired me to really try to go for some nickels at a site I was working. Said something about all hits being 9-X or 10-X. So anyhow, I tried it out some... and wouldn't you know it, I dug a gold ring. Well now it's back to the...

    Looking for coil recommendations...

I've got an SE and there was talk about the Pro coil and another coil here both being pretty hot stuff recently. I cannot remember what the other coil was. I'm generally hunting hunted out places, going slow, looking for the things others have missed. The deep silver dimes, coins on edge...

Just thinking about the E-Trac and the Sunray probe...

If the X1 doesn't work on the E-Trac, that would definitely delay my purchase. I've come to rely on those Sunray probes, and I swore I would not buy another machine without one.

    Love the Explorer

Accurate ID at depth this is the advantage. I'm sure other machines could go as deep, but is the ID as accurate? The silver medal thing, and the 61 and 34 quarters all came out from depths I have never dug before. At least 2-3" beyond the length of my digger. I love silver quarters! [attachment...
