    Safari to the big E

I currently have a safari, and am seriously thinking about upgrading to the e-trac. Any E-trac owners out there with safari experience that can give me some e-trac insight?

    Garrett pro pointer

After being thoroughly disappointed with my first experience using a pinpointer, (free v-max from kellyco) I was really hesitant about buying a new one. After reading about the pros and cons of several, I decided on the Garrett. After a 12 hour MD'n expedition yesterday, I am very impressed...

Man, another good night in IOWA!

I can say that the last 10 days have been the best of my MD'n career. Tonight, brothers, I give you the results of my outing in Walnut, Iowa. About 3.5 hours in a house yard have produced the attached results. A first tonight though, an 1891 V nickel. The V is badly worn, but nonetheless, a...

    AWESOME IOWA NIGHT!

3.5 hours produced some good finds. 1917 merc, 1916 buffalo, 3 green ladies, 1894, 1898, and a 1907! Wheats: 1910, 1911, 1917d, 1918 and 1919. Also some 40's and 50's wheats. This was one of those yards where there were goodies every 5 yards. Wheats and merc came in @ 38. Green ladies @ 34-35...

    Goodbye gay coil cover!

Got tired of taking off the coil cover and cleaning to prevent falsing, so I made some changes. I used some truck bedliner spray to coat the bottom of the coil. The stuff should be tough!

    Green Ladies and some silver!

What a week! Today, once again on the hunt in western Iowa. The 1901 barber (very good) found in an old park, strong 38 at 4 inches below dirtline. Then to a farmstead, where I found my green ladies. The 1903 Indian is in great condition, and the 1874 is good. Both read 34-35 at 4 inches. I...

    6/10/10 Iowa yard expedition

2 inches of rain today made plug cutting easy this evening. Hunted for 2 hours, talked to homeowner for 1. Went over this place last year with the Bounty Hunter. But tonight, my friends and brothers, I extracted from the earth a 1900 barber, and a 1909 wheat. 1909 is in excellent condition...

    My 2 cents!

Took a lunch break with my md'n bro Tom (he has an F75) and we decided to do some swinging in an old western Iowa park. We figured that this place had been hit pretty hard, and we were right, no wheats, no clads, I mean nothing! The grass was about 2 inches high, we were getting discouraged. But...

    First outing of 2010

It is nice to be out hunting again now that the snow is gone! Went to an old farmhouse in Manilla, Iowa that I had hit before with my toy Bounty Hunter. I had found a '47 quarter on my last outing, but that was it. So now, with the Safari, I have been hitting all these places again, and...

    Weekend Treasures!!

Some kind of cool finds for the weekend. The "dirt widow" (wife) is seriously getting down on the man and his metal detecting addiction. Actually, corn and bean harvest is starting so I will be working long hours and not see much of the family, so she wants me to spend more time with the...

    no background noise

So I'm swinging, and there are signals and background noise on the safari. Then, silence for a few swings. In the silence sometimes I get strong signals. So what's the deal with the silence? Should I stop the swing with long silence and wait for the background noise to start up again or what...
