Finally Got My First IH with the CTX!! Some Silver Too!!

Hi All!! Got out to an old abandoned church today. It seems like it was a penny day as I got a pocket full of wheats (12). I could not read much on the pennies as I pulled them from about 5-8 in down. When I got home and started cleaning them up I noticed they were very old compared to what I...

    Seeking Advice for Hunting Slopes

Hi All, I am considering taking the CTX to hunt a side of a ridge which is about 30 degrees. People have walked this hill for 160+ years. In the early 20th century, concrete walkways and steps were installed. I am interested in what kind of luck you have had on slopes and if there needs to be...

    Hunted Old School Site Today!

One of the old timers told me about an old school which had been torn down in the 60s. I went over there and found part of the foundation still present. One side was particularly rich in older coins. I found 18 wheats, a US military button, a James Buchanan commemorative, and three silver coins...

Starting the New Year Right!! 2 Silvers!!

Got out to a new park which is really near a beach. I found two rough looking silvers ( 44D Quarter and S war nickel). The nickel is pretty crusty but I got enough of it off to see an S above the dome on the reverse. Quarter is in good shape but is discolored and baking powder wouldnt touch it...

Final 2012 Talleys (At least the 5 months I have been Hunting)...

Got the CTX somewhere around July. Mainly hunted weekends since then. Before that I had not swung a detector since the seventies. LOL! I managed 17 silver coins during the time. Two of these warrant some explanation. The coin with a star on the quarter row is a Cuban 20 centavos coin from 1920...

Need some Help from some Beach Experts!

I have hunted almost exclusively yards, parks, schools, vacant lots ect... I really dont care to hunt clad. What I really like to find is old coins. I used to think beach hunting was mostly for jewelry and clad. I have noticed several hunters finding old US coins at the beach. Can I get some...

Last Hunts of 2012. Silver and More!

Went hunting both Sat and Sun to my new honey hole. Got 22 wheats, a 43D merc and a 42 Washington. The Washington was interesting because on the surface I got a 12.40 @ 9in. Initially I thought it to be another wheat penny. I could only hear it from one direction because of iron masking. I...

What is the Deepest Memorial You Ever Found?

Bet you were pi$$ed off when you saw it too!! I dug one at 8-9 inches yesterday... Was sure it would be an IH or at least a really old wheat. So frustrating and disappointing! Someone must have dropped some new dirt in the area where I was. Wish they would scrape it off rather than drop it...

    Had a Fun Hunt Today!

I hit a new (old) park today. Found a 30'X30' area that was dense with older coins. It was near the street so I wonder if there was a bus stop or concession stand there in the 40-50s. I found 10 wheats from 1941-55, two mercs 43D and 20P, and an interesting token. Felt like shooting fish in a...

Help Me Date a CTX Find!

I found this Barber quarter a few days ago at a park. I discussed finds in this recent thread... http://www.findmall.com/read.php?86,1830216 I have been looking at this coin under magnification and different light sources for a while. I think it might be an 1897 but cannot entirely exclude...

    Success at a Pounded Park

Went to an old park for two hours today. I know it has been pounded many times by other detectorists. The soil was almost brick-like in consistency. As I found, coins dont sink too far in this soil. I found the Barber quarter and the Merc at about 4in. Most old stuff in our area is usually 6in...

Thought I was Skunked on Silver but...

I was out at a school built in 1934 where I had found mercs and wheaties before. I was digging a bunch of clad and few wheats when I got a 12.40 at 8 in. I recovered a crusty black coin which was nickle sized but did not hit anywhere near the nickle zone. When I got home I tried to scrape some...

    Two Silver Day!

Went to old School yard. Got a 12.41-43 at five inches and out popped a 36 merc. Also found the handle end of a silver baby spoon and two 40s wheaties.

    3 Silvers in One Day!

Record for me today. Two small silver rings and a 1937 D Washington! In the same hole with the Washington was a 1937D Buff and a 1940D Jeff. A 1940s wheaty was also found in the same area. The rings both have .925 in the band but it was too small to photograph.

Has anyone seen this in A+3?

Was searching an old park today in A+3 when I noticed the sensitivity readings below. I have never seen a reading above 30 has anyone else?

    Surprise Big Silver (Not Coin)

Was out at an abandoned school today. Got a 12.45 at 5in. Pulled a 6 in plug and nothing inside... Got the pin pointer in the hole and got a tone in the bottom. Dug another inch and out pops a belt buckle. Usually these are junk, so I prepared to stuff it in the discard pile. But something...

    Silver Drought is Over!!!

Was detecting at an abandoned school and got a 12.46 at 7 inches. Managed to recover a 1951D Washington in fairly good shape. Had not hit silver in a while so I was very glad to see it... http://youtu.be/vK6X8b4MPvM

    Unusual Find with CTX Today...

Was out to day at the same field which has been very good to me the last two hunts. It was really hot and I had been at it for 6 hours with nothing to show but clad and trash. LOL! I thought I would take one more target. I got a 12.45 at 9in. I thought that it was deeper than I wanted to dig at...

    CTX Silver Streak Continues!!

Went out this evening to the same field where I found the WLH yesterday. I got a 12.44 at 7in. and dug a silver Cuban 10 centavo coin from 1920. I posed it beside yesterdays big silver after a bit of a clean-up. The CTX is a sniper for silver!!

    First Big Silver with CTX!!

Was hunting a junky field in an old part of town. I had dug so many screw top beer lids that I was only digging 12.42s and higher. LOL! Got to the back of the field where there was much less trash and identified a 12.46/47 at 5in. Sorry did not have camera to film coin and hole. It is a very...
