fixed ground balance on the vanquesh

I have both a Nox 800 and the Vanquish 540. Honestly, I've never had the need to ground balance either. Even in the Nox manual, it states not to Ground Balance unless it's really noisy. The exception is Gold Mode where Tracking Ground Balance is the default. Directly from the Nox manual...

    Picked up a Nox 800

What do you mean the Equinox you got is not waterproof? They are waterproof by design. Are you saying something damaged it to break the seal?

VDI numbers on the Minelab Vanquish 540

Yep, what Silverseeker said. For me, if it's a solid 30, it's usually a quarter. However 30's and higher can also mean silver...

Are there any new updates for the Equinox, would sure like to see a clock

On the 800, you can save a custom profile with the 4k freq. That way, you can hunt in Park 1 (or whatever you want) in multi and when you want to check in 4k, simply press your custom user profile button.

    Equinox Skid Plate

With any double-D coil, the easiest way (for me at least) is the double-D wiggle". Just go back and forth while moving back and when the signal disappears, the target is right at the tip of the coil.

    Nox acting real erratic

If you haven't yet, definitely remove the coil cover and clean out all the sand....that WILL cause the issue you describe.

    Getting The Right Advice..!

The Minelab Vanquish series is multi-frequency like the Equinox...and very similar to the Equinox... Else the Nox is the way to go, especially as a newbie with 2 friends that have a Nox.

    Vanquish 540

I have both the Vanquish 540 and Equinox 800. The 540 is a great detector, but by no means as good as the Equinox 800. The recovery speed on the Vanquish forces me to go much slower....

You do know that the Carrot can be ground balanced to eliminate the falsing in mineralized soil? And it is one push on, one push off....

    Beach performance

I've been using beach 2 exclusively in wet and dry and like it. As for GB, as per the manual, unless it's necessary, don't do it/leave at 0. I've never ground balanced at the beach and have never had any issues.

    Little bleeps

Yeah, you have to just get used to the many bleeps you will get and wait for the solid, repeatable 2-way tones that are repeatable when turning 90deg as well.

    Some Shine.. Some Don't.. Why..??

Where I live in MD, the Mercury dimes I've dug from the ground are in VERY nice shape...very shiny! However the ones I've pulled from the Chesapeake Bay are black...I've tried cleaning them up with various methods to no avail...they are very black.

    Pairing 540 Vanquish Help..!

It's also good to note that once paired, you only have to turn them on again normally (no long-press) and it will sync up. However, if you do a factory reset, you'll have to re-pair them.

    FE/FE2 settings at the beach?

I'm curious what those of you on the East Coast of the U.S. in particular are running your FE settings at? The default in Beach 2 is 6/6...but I'm thinking of lowering my FE2 to a 3. Your thoughts?

Is the equinox update worth it??

The counter question is why wouldn't you? It's a quick update. I personally like my electronic devices to have the latest firmware that the manufacturer puts out.
