Indian head cents #999 and 1,000 dug yesterday.

No secrets. Just average a little over 30 a year for 32 1/2 years and you get there ! Only secret is don't look for the perfect signal. Most of the last couple hundred were tough digs near old iron and very deep. Look for nice deep, repeatable tones that don't sound like junk.

Indian head cents #999 and 1,000 dug yesterday.

Thanks to my trusty Explorer SE Pro I was able to dig indian head cents #999 and 1,000 yesterday. Those last two took a while to find. Hit a park in the shadow of the NY State Capital Building that really hasn't produced many old coins in the last 15 years. Both cents were deep and masked by...

Indian head cents #999 and 1,000

Hit a spot in the shade of the NY State Capital building yesterday morning hoping to find those elusive two final indian head cents to reach the 1,000 mark. First good target was a very deep 1909 wheat cent. A while later I get a very mixed hit but it was nice and deep so I dug it. It was a 1898...

Dug Indian Head cent #997 this afternoon.

Chris, I'm missing just three. Of course, they are the key dates 1877, 1908-S and 1909-S. Have found many fatties including an 1860 today.

Dug Indian Head cent #998 today. Two more to go to hit 1,000

Dug Indian head cent #998 today. Just two more to go to hit the 1,000 milestone! Today's lone find was a nice 1860 fattie. First target I dug after stepping out of my truck. Parks have been very busy and all the rain has left the grass very high and difficult to detect in.

Indian Head cent #998 on the way to 1,000

Dug Indian Head cent #997 this afternoon.

Just three more to go to reach the 1,000 mark in my 32+ years of metal detecting. They are getting harder and harder to find. In the good old days, I could dig 4-5 every outing. Now I'm lucky to find one every 3-4 times out. The trusty old Explorer SE Pro can still sniff them out though. This...

Dug Indian Head Cent #997 Today.

Dug a beautiful 1869 Indian Head cent to reach 997 total dug in my 32+ years of metal detecting. Just three to go to reach the 1,000 mark. Hopefully I'll get the final three in the next couple days. Don't find as many as I did back in the good old days !

Indian head cents # 991 and 992. Count down to 1,000

Dug two Indian head cents today ( 1883 & 1908 ) to bring my total dug over 32 years to 992. I've dug every coin in the series except the key date 1877 and the 1908 and 1909 San Francisco minted coins. Hopefully I didn't jinx myself and I'll get those last 8 coins to hit 1000.

Old explorer still hitting on those old coins

Parks are thawed and ready to go so off to one of my favorites today. A quick hunt netted me an 1864 two cent piece, 1870 indian head cent, worn shield nickel and a wheat cent. Great start to the detecting season.

    Some early season finds

Parks have thawed enough to dig so out I went for out for a quick 90 minute hunt today. In the same area where I dug four 1864 two cent pieces last year, lightning struck again when I dug another 1864 two cent piece. When I stuck the probe back in the hole, I got another good hit and pulled out...

Three more IHPs and a nice button

Back to the same old city park yesterday and came away with 1884-1893 and 1907 Indian head cents, one wheatie and a nice post civil war general staff cuff button. Hopefully the weather will hold out over the weekend so I can get another hunt in.

No large cents today but did dig a few small ones.

A quick 90 minute hunt back at the old city park resulted in digging a nice fat 1860 indian head cent and 1893 and 1905 skinny ones. A 1913 wheatie and a lead bale seal rounded out the hunt. I've put together a nice set of copper-nickel indian head cents this year but still need an 1859 and 1864...

The old city park is still giving out !

Quick 90 minute hunt this morning netted me a nice 1860 fat indian head cent and 1893 and 1905 "skinnies". A 1913 wheat and lead bale seal rounded out the hunt. I have a nice set of copper-nickel indian head cents going this year with the 1860-61-62-63 years found. Need 1859 and 1864 to round...

Another large cent from the old city park

With the temperature hovering around freezing today I just had to get out. Back to the old city park for a quick hunt. First coin dug was this 1847 large cent in a spot I've walked over many times. Again, the coin was slightly masked by a 4" square nail in the hole. Only other coins I dug were a...

Explorer sniffs out another silver from iron infested ground.

Dug this nice 1919 mercury dime that had 2 iron nails and an iron buckle in the same hole. The 1901 V nickel was also surrounded by iron targets. Love the way the Explorer can sniff out that silver ! Also dug a nice musket ball and a wheat cent before heading to my "B" city park. While there I...

A few more before the snow flies

Met up with Park Pirate this morning and we both came away with silver. I dug a nice 1919 Mercury dime that was surrounded by iron nails and a buckle. Also got a nice .69 caliber musket ball and a 1901 V nickel. Stopped at my "B" city park on the way home and dug a crusty indian head cent, large...

November off to a good start. Another large cent.

Only hunted for about an hour this afternoon before my battery died but made the best of the three coins I dug. 1919-S wheatie, 1906 indian head cent and then a worn large cent that came from the same area where I dug all the 2 cent pieces a couple of weeks ago. Another very deep target, at...
