New Guy looking for a good machine + MD tips

I second that! I am a newbie with this generation of equipment and I can honestly say that the V3i produced results for me right out of the packing materials and into the field. You could do much much worse than a V3i or VX3. The Shark

How many of you went from a minelab to a V3?

But mine truly is bigger! :poke:  Ok, I'll quit provoking you. But it was funny. The Shark

    Coming back to Whites

I second that. I tried out an E-trac before I went with a V3i. The thing that sold me on the V over the E was the different type of target information that the V3i offered that the E-trac did not. And I will also admit there was some nationalist pride involved as well. I have said for years...

    VCO

Ok Neil, when it comes to detectors I thought I had *it* really bad until I read this!! You truly are a sick man when it comes to tech, but as a fellow tech head I have to admit - I LOVE IT!!! PDF - just added to my phone......thanks for the idea. The Shark

    More Questions

Well said indeed. Polar plot is a good final indicator to dig or not to dig when it comes to a questionable signal. It only takes a few seconds and unless you are using a team of excavators to open and close holes for you "while you move on to your next target" I really do not understand why...

    My v3i

Ward, where are you located? Different areas of the country have different soil mineralization levels. It would help you to get pointers on your soil type as well. Testing with known targets cannot be overstated. Geting out in a test garden will get you miles and miles ahead and help with the...

Charging XLT batteries with a V3 charger

I probably know the answer to this question because I have not tried but............. I got two rechargeable batteries with a used XLT I bought a few months ago and just sold on another site. Unfortunately I did not get a charger so I could not test these batteries so I kept them and did not...

    Better than the V3i

I am guessing the rocket scientist wants to use it to pierce his ears. Don't tell him there are better tools for that application - just chalk it up as Darwin's theory at work. :goodnight:  :heh: The Shark

    Better than the V3i

In it's day the Trinitron was quite a piece of technology, but so was the 6000 for that matter. I don't get why a nostalgia buff like this guy had an issue with your offer. I can only imagine what his ad would look like for that Trinitron. Get the state of the art!! A full 20" screen TV that...

    Better than the V3i

You know, the problem with experimenting with recreational drugs when you are young is the unknown consequences when you get older. This guy is clearly suffering from a drug induced flashback that has little basis in fact or reality. It is really a shame how people mess with the most valuable...

    Gold and polar plot

Absolutely! In order of importance I go with tone-VDI-frequency-analysis (polar plot, etc.) and it works very well because I do not dig all that much trash. For the exception of some very odd bottle caps and a single type of pull tab that ring in a good VDI's and give all excellent indications...

    Gold and polar plot

Neil, you are not alone oh wise one! I too find polar plot useful. Coming from a GTI 2500 as my former detector which features sizing you would think I would value sizing over the polar plot, but that has not been my experience. The polar plot has really helped with sprinkler heads out in the...

    Concentric coils:confused:

This is the nature of conversation - they wander from time to time. But I will refrain from posting since I spoke to the concentric post and now I am done. :throw:

    Concentric coils:confused:

I don't want this to appear like I am arguing with you because I am not and would not. You are gold as far as I am concerned, but...... There were 4 people I saw with Bigfoots. I had honestly only seen one prior to that day. One hunter had one on what looked like an original Fisher Gold Bug...

    Concentric coils:confused:

I for one hate, hate, hate Bigfoot coils and I am talking about that thing that looks like a wide yardstick. I went to a club hunt last month and took 2 detectors a GTI 2500 and a XLT. Both detectors went insane when a detector fitted with a Bigfoot got anywhere near them and I was not alone...

    Concentric coils:confused:

You know, this is exactly why I tune in here!! :clapping: I have only had my V3+i for a little more than a month and I feel like I have owned it for more than a year because the volumes of information I get right here. Thank you sir for taking the time to inform me of the benefits of these...

    VX3 questions for the newbies.......

I am actually thinking about letting my 5.3, cover, and quick change pole go because I have only used them 2x. But I will not be able to post in the classified area here for another month or so. I think the limit is 90 days or something......... Those coils that go in circles just don't get it...

    Concentric coils:confused:

Nope, I have a 5.3 and it says home and I may eventually sell it. The 10" DD and 4X6 are my weapons of choice in this horrible Cali soil. There must be a ton of copper in this soil too because every coin I dig is the color of central Virginia clay and hard to clean short of a wire brush :lol...

    :super::whites:Park Hunt!!!

You are correct it is a nickel monster. Lately I seem to be stacking up mostly dimes and then quarters. I also love being able to tell if it is a copper or zincon with some reliablity. I will not waste the time to dig zinc because they are in horrible shape when I get them out of the hole, but...

    Subforum VX3

Ok, entry level for the V family. I almost left a very nasty reply to this, but I took time to take a breath and opted not to do so. Next time please post a few lines instead of a subject because it is a little rude or snarky to in effect trash someones idea(s) with little or no justification...
