    Six to eight inch Dimes

Ah, I understand now. At first, I was bit disappointed to hear that the X is maxing out at about 8" on dimes. But then I thought about how many coins I've dug at 8", and the answer is... not many :-) If it can hit those, I'll be happy. -Ken

    Six to eight inch Dimes

Good to know the X can nab those dimes! When you say both it and the Pro "really struggle" in this field, is that because of mineralization? -Ken

    Reducing Gain vs. Reducing Threshold

Thanks -- I did find that reducing Gain alone seemed to do the trick. In some of his videos, I think Ziggy recommends setting the Threshold just so it's quiet -- turn it up until you get a bit of sound, then turn it down slightly. This seems different to how Threshold is used on most other...

    Reducing Gain vs. Reducing Threshold

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll try reducing Gain more than Threshold next time I'm in a high-EMI situation. -Ken

    Reducing Gain vs. Reducing Threshold

Thanks, Joe. Is your dirt fairly mineralized? Mine balances at around the 10 o'clock position on the X... I'm not sure if that's mineralized or not. -Ken

    Reducing Gain vs. Reducing Threshold

In a high EMI situation, Is it best to leave Gain at the red dot and reduce Threshold until the machine is stable? Or should I reduce Gain somewhat as well? Just wondering what the pros and cons of reducing one vs. the other are. Thanks. -Ken

Best Machine for jewelry on land

I agree with the previous comments about Tesoros being great for jewelry. My gold ring finds started increasing as soon as I started using a Mojave instead of screen TID machines. It's not that the TID machines couldn't hit the jewelry, necessarily... it's more that I have the bad habit of...

    Fell off the Technology wagon

I know what you mean. I did buy a new Sand Shark last year because I'd wanted one for awhile and didn't feel comfortable buying a used water machine. I'm being pretty careful with it and so far it works fine. Would have liked to get it at a discount because of the warranty issue but decided to...

    Fell off the Technology wagon

These guys can fix Tesoros and some other brands: http://brokendetector.com Some folks on these forums also have the electronics knowledge to do repairs. Just to be clear, I'm not one of them :-) Tesoros are pretty robust, though. Not unbreakable, but not very fragile, either. -Ken

    Fell off the Technology wagon

The Tejon is a great machine -- just ask if you have questions about it. -Ken

    Well life rolls on

LOL, to each his own. I have to agree that the X doesn't look as cool as most of the Tesoros do. But if I wanted to look stylish, I think I picked the wrong hobby :) -Ken

    Florida Wet Sand/Water Hunting

Thought I'd post a quick report on how my Ft. Lauderdale hunting went. Fortunately, our trip was before the COVID-19 panic really hit, so I was able to hunt for coins rather than toilet paper :-) That said, the pickings were pretty slim in the area I was at, which was around 25th St. NE, a...

    Well life rolls on

That is one heck of a coin, Whimpster! Your experience switching to Tesoros is very close to my own -- I no longer own any machines with screens. :) I have a Vista X ready to go when the ground thaws (if the ground thaws). Based on my indoor air-tests, it's going to be a really fun machine...

    Analog vs Screen Machines

You have to understand your own strengths and weaknesses as a detectorist. I used screen machines for years, then tried a Tesoro more or less on a whim. I soon started finding more gold jewelry than I ever had with my TID machines. Not because the Tesoro was better than they were but because it...

    Well life rolls on

That's encouraging! I plan to use the 6" a lot, but it's good to know the 11" can deal with the heavy iron as well. A few weeks ago on DeepTech's Facebook page, one of the DeepTech people mentioned that two new coils are coming for the X: one smaller and one larger than the stock coil. Since...

First Impressions of the Vista X

Mikey, there are some threads about the 6" coil on this forum... here's a good one: https://www.findmall.com/threads/im-not-sure-i-can-even-relay-how-hot-this-5-7-coil-is-on-the-vista-x.345487/ -Ken

    Well life rolls on

I started detecting with analog machines, then moved to digital ones (Garretts and then Minelabs). Buying a Mojave in 2017 rekindled my enjoyment of the hobby and increased my finds, if for no other reason than I was spending more time hunting because it was fun again. I also realized that...

    Tejon owners, some input please

Just checked -- it's not really easy to turn even in its "active" range. I mean, I can turn it without difficulty, but it's stiff enough that bumping it accidentally won't cause it to move. -Ken

    Tejon owners, some input please

Yeah, the GB knob is raised higher than the others -- funny I never noticed that before. I don't see evidence of an o-ring though. I've attached a photo; the GB knob is the one closest to the bottom. -Ken
