Schoolhouse On Wrong Side Of The Road

Today I drove to the site of a one-room schoolhouse that an 1877 map showed on the southwest side of the road. With the owners name in hand I stopped at his farm house to ask for permission to hunt. He was somewhat surprised that the old map showed it to be on his property. He informed me that...

Loss Of Depth In Fertilized Farm Fields ?

While hunting the farm fields in my area,it seems that many of the targets that I recover are in the 4-5 inch range. Very few "coin like" targets are recovered in the deeper 6-10 inch range. I realize that the uneven ground of the fields can come onto play and cause a loss of depth. Does...

    Odd residential hunt…..

Definitely looks like it's been hunted. If so, finding coins that others missed is great. Nice going on the silver.

    1941 merc dime surprises me

Nice Merc. I like hunting in the early spring and the late fall. The cooler (cold) temperatures allow me to be able to hunt longer without getting fatigued. The wet ground is a plus too. High winds can be challenging. It's good that you decided to brave the elements.

1865 Schoolhouse Gives Up Vintage Colt Revolver

I hunted an 1865 one-room schoolhouse site that I was able to locate on an old plat map. The long gone school site is now a farm field, and after gaining permission from the owner, I hunted it for about six hours this week. After finding several Indian Heads and Wheat Cents, I hit a target that...

    Pretty decent two day run….

The Ike Dollar wasn't a very popular coin to carry, so they were not lost very often. Nice recovery.

    1870 Indian - Shallow or Bold N?

I like a coin that shows some dirt in the field of the coins. I feel that it helps the details stay visible. Any type of oil or liquid will change the appearance and it's usually changed for the worse. It's really up to each individual on how he wants to treat a dug coin. Treatment does also...

    A Six Indian Head day

After doing some research I was able to locate the site of a long gone 1865-1920 one-room schoolhouse that was about an hours drive away. After gaining permission, I drove to the site and as soon as I stepped into the field I spotted a large amount of broken brick and pieces of glass scattered...

    Where's Fisher ?

I've used Fisher/First Texas products for the last 30+ years and always enjoyed their great detectors. The F75 has been my main detector for quite some time and I was happy with their continued improvement of it after it first came out. Improvments such as DST and Boost Process. It has been...

    1870 Indian - Shallow or Bold N?

I agree Ronstar. The best thing about finding full Liberty Indian Heads is that you can pretty much pinpoint the time period that the coin was lost. This helps to date the site you are hunting. Same goes for most any "unworn" coin finds... Houchens35,that is a very nice Indian Head.

    1870 Indian - Shallow or Bold N?

Your Indian Head has larger notches on the "N" in ONE. Also the "E" does "not" seem to have the curved "trumpet" shaped serifs. As a side note the serif on the "E" of your coin would look even more straighter "T" shaped if the dirt was completely off of it . The same with the notches on the...

    Relics and F75

Those settings should work well for you in the fields. Maybe try running the Sensitivity somewhere between 80 and 90 after you have some time on the machine. In the field areas that are not trashy, try the Motion All Metal mode and concentrate on targets that hit at about 35 and above. It's...
