    I've upgraded!

I just bought a used Explorer 2 complete with a pro coil AND a Sunray X-1 probe. I was told this machine has faster signal processing than the XS and after using it a few times I believe it. I'm getting good signals that are closer to iron. This is going to be a fun machine in 2014! Honestly the...

    Ky. State Seal Button...

Dug this one today. Don't think it's Civil War. Ky. Civil War buttons are very rare and I've only dug 2 Ky. buttons so far. Odds get better each time right?

Digs from a small Yankee camp...

This place has been hunted quite a bit. Most of the signals were iffy or real deep. I also got a semi key half dime that I gave to the owner. 1844-O but it was worse than ag. He was happy. He's detected the area a lot but never found a half dime. HH Neal

Got to pull some good Yankee relics out of Virginia last weekend...

Three days at a Yankee camp were very good to me this past weekend. 2 Breastplates, 1 U.S. boxplate, colonial bit boss, eagle button, bullets, percussion cap tin lid and more. It's the same spot that I dug the 5 plates pictured in my avatar ten years ago. It was a good hunt for sure! HH Neal

Tobacco is cut on the farm...

and we had some rain lately making it a good time to look for Indian artifacts. I found one small area with a concentration of chips of flint but no points. Then I came up the side of another hill and found chips and large stones and really slowed down and looked close. This nice little point...

    Lower ID numbers question...

I know iron ID's below 40 but I was wondering what is in the 35-39 range? Can I expect this to be all iron too? Maybe some real small foil??? Neal

    I have an etrac question...

I've never used one but may have to buy something in the not too distant future because they don't make Explorers anymore and that's what I've been using for 15 years more. Looks like there is a wider divergance between ferrous and nonferrous numbers. On the 1-35 scale it looks like ferrous...

Any Kirkland (Costco) battery users out there?

It seems like they last a lot longer on my Explorer than any other name brand battery. However, I've seen reviews that many people have had leaking problems with them. So far I have not but I'm only on my 3rd set. Anybody else?

Finds from the last month or so of digging...

Best find in the bunch is the larger round token, it's a Bobby's Bookstore from 1863, that makes it a Civil War Token. The scalloped token is a maverick, the is a good for 5cents token and a 1907 Belgium one cent piece that is almost worn smooth. Also a jade and gold ( I hope) Buddha. Thanks for...

I found a ring for a guy today...

I was hunting a little park when a guy comes up to me and says he lost a silver ring about a year ago next to the basketball court. He described the ring and I said that since it was silver and was lost only a year ago that I might be able to find it. So, I proceeded to dig all the quarter type...

Old house site on the Ohio River

Got to dig a field where an 1800's house sat today. It's a site that overlooks the Ohio River in northern KY. I got most of the targets I think and it's no till so not much need of going back unless they decide to plow it again. This is everything except the trash, 20 or 30 shell casings and...

This is a comment from another site about whether Christians should be involved in the political/government process:

The Bible speaks to the christians responsibility to be light and salt in this world. The comments supra related to Joseph and Daniel make the case for christian ethics when God places them in govt. My role as a citizen in first century Roman totalitarin nondemocratc rule would be different than...

I had 2 good digging days this week...

The first one was at a fairgrounds near here that gave up 3 indians, 2 Barber dimes and a Standing Liberty Quarter. The second day was yesterday. I took a drive north of the state line and hit some vacant lots in a town plus a park. This added 2 silver quarters, a merc, another indian, a 1924...

Would a GPX machine do better finding relics in high minerals or iron? Better depth?

My weekend digs, with Mike and Big Fang....

The Michigan diggers invaded KY and we got into a few good spots. We spent a few hours at a CW camp and I got some bullets. Then we hit a variety of spots and I got a few good coins. Most of all it was good to see Mike and Robin again. We got to catch up on old times and had some laughs. The 2...
