    Deep Targets

When you find that happening, run your loop over the suspect area from many different angles. If there's really a good target there, you'll get a response from mulitple angles. If it's just the iron, the "good" target will only respond on a particular angle. I have yet to dig a good target...

    Agreed -- that's a slick spreadsheet!

    V-3 Back Light???

That's funny -- and I actually have had the same problem. If I don't keep the coil well out in front of me, it picks up the metal eyelets from the straps on my walking shoes!

What kind of gloves do you all use?

I generally don't use gloves or knee pads, but with it being so cold and wet around here lately, I'm more inclined to use both.

    Pulltabs

I've had plenty of pulltabs with 22.5 on top. I haven't found enough gold to notice any patterns of differences yet, though.

    Sweet Home visit today

Be careful of the poison ivy if you're very sensitive -- the stems are even worse than the leaves, and they can still nail you in the winter. I once cleaned out a brushy area in the wintertime, figuring I was safe in my long sleeves and gloves, but I still got poison ivy so bad it nearly put me...

    Does anyones V3 work properly?

Mine works great -- plenty of finds, some insanely deep. I have had to learn to adjust around EMI, but I don't see that as a problem.

    V3 depth another fix?

Also, the depth is based on a penny-sized target. If the target is much larger or smaller, the depth will be off a bit.

Inverted and the "Heart Beat" hump.. and what I have discovered.

Good luck -- I hunted a similar site and found about 150 coins, but they were all modern. There was one 1964 silver dime, but the rest were all modern clad, not even so much as a wheat penny.

Any news on a rain/dust cover for the V3 meter?

I just got my covers from Thesaurus today, and I am extremely impressed. They are very solidly constructed, very high quality materials. I also got their find bag, and it is equally impressive.

The V3 is a battery eating machine!!!

In normal daylight, I turn the backlight off entirely. It just doesn't seem needed. The couple of times I've been out after dark, I've only had it at two or three. (Any brighter and it makes you feel like a deer in the headlights. :) ) I'm not sure how much battery is saved by not using the...

Should I buy the Spectra V3???

You can only find what's in the ground. I've found good targets at all depths ranging from right on top of the ground down to about 14" deep. (And I might add "so far"...)

    Why should I....

Ah. That's Jimmy Sierra's site. He might be a little busy with other things at the moment (bigfoot coil, maybe?). I can't speak for other users, but I'm not likely to ever post a video on YouTube about the V3 or any other detector. I'd rather be digging. At least around here...

    Why should I....

You do realize that www.vision.com is for a consulting group, and has nothing to do with metal detectors, right? There were 20+ videos on YouTube last I looked, most of them from the DVD. I had no trouble at all getting one from my local dealer, and he has sold more than one. (Admittedly, I...

    Pinpointing with the DD Coil

Dead center of the coil, just about where the shaft attaches.

    Power usage in menu?

Funny you should say that -- I've been noticing that lately too. With the V3 lying on the ground with the coil perpendicular to the ground, it chatters like mad. But pick it up and put the coil back horizontal to the ground and it quiets right down.

    analyze

Nah, you're not the only one. I like the silver, too, but I'm just as happy with an old penny, nickel, bullet, or pretty much anything other than aluminum.

    Power usage in menu?

It may not be worth the effort, but I was curious. I use a seperare handheld pinpointer, so having the headphones go quiet while I dig is also helpful with that. The power savings is a bonus -- saves me having to recharge as much.

    Power usage in menu?

I've taken to "pausing" my V3 when I put it down to dig a hole, by pressing the menu button. Since this shuts off the search audio, I presume it stops transmitting as well? It seems like this would increase battery life if I spend a lot of time digging (which I do sometimes -- those deep...

Whites Spcetra V3 or Minlabs Etrac

That's not necessarily the best way to make a choice. I'm going to be more impressed with a nice morgan dollar than I am with a crusty wheat penny. But if the dollar was four inches deep and the penny was a foot deep, would the more impressive find imply the better detector? Not necessarily...
