    Todays find......a shield nickel?

    Got a deep signal today.....about 10-11" in sandy soil. Popped this up. I thnk its a shield nickel....had to look it up.....produced 1866-1883. My oldest find so far....and it shows it. I could maybe clean it up some but I dont think it would help.

    If you "force" me to answer...I would say 5-6 in.......average but it soooooooooo varies on the soil engaged. I know that some like the 6x10 in more mineralized soil.....I prefer my D2. Its sounds like your really getting into the v3i! Good things come to those.....who hunt!

    Again, all depends on your soil. They are great in trash, fence lines and tight areas etc.
