    Silver shortage

I figured you had been in the hobby longer than that Donna. I started out in 2006 and once I figured out what I was doing, I started hitting mostly local school yards and was amazed at the amount of coins people had lost. With that said, around 2009 or so, I noticed a sharp decline in new coins...

    Found a Ring

I actually like finding them…. The way I look at it, they are still lost items and much better than a bottle cap or pulltab…

I had a fun outing today....

Funny you mention the cops……. Within about 15 minutes of starting out detecting, a cop happened to ride by on patrol…. He went right by me and never even stopped to ask me if I was finding anything….. I hope the sledding hill works out for you…🤞🤞🤞

I had a fun outing today....

I have not been out much after getting back from my beach trip other than a couple quick hunts. Today after a few days of rain, I decided to try a new location and it turned out pretty good for me. I finally found my first dollar coin for the year, got a good count of quarters, and scored a nice...

I’d like to put in my two cents worth…

That 2 cent price piece is in great condition!!!! Better looking by far than any others I have ever seen dug! I have only found one myself and it has been submerged under water for about 100 years…. Sadly mine is not in very good condition at all… just barely enough to tell what it is. Congrats...

    How did they miss this?

That is pretty deep in my area with my soil. I have found them pretty deep here, but the signals are kind of faint….. most surprisingly have been less than 4” deep though.

I gotta give a huge shout-out to VA beach Max and Felix who helped me.............

Glad I was able to help you out…… good luck!! As others have already stated, Max ( I call him Tuffy) is a great guy! The very first time I went to Va. Beach detecting and met him, he invited me to his house for a nice dinner! He still detects at Va. Beach.

Think I Found The Old Home Place

That site you are on reminds me of one I searched some years ago…. My buddy and I found some nice buttons (many civil war era), but never found one coin.

Every site is like a history lesson, if history was fun.

That is quite interesting history!! Never heard of railroad marbles… I wonder if any photos exist of any of the corn palaces?

what a difference a couple of weeks make.....

I think it is happening now, but felt like it was last week from what I experienced at Va. Beach…. I think they got alot of rain this time though.

    Very hard ground!

I would say a prospector’s pick is the way to go as somersault have mentioned. I have one I used in rivers with rocky bottoms and it works great at getting down to targets…. I can be used to pry rocks up too while you are digging.

Back from my annual beach trip....

I put in quite a bit mote time detecting than you too Mark…. About 5-6 hours each day over 4 days. During high tide I usually try up on the beach, then try lower as the tide works out. Even though there was not a lot on the beach, I found more there then at the surf line. I am still using my...

Back from my annual beach trip....

I just got back from Virginia Beach and the conditions were terrible Monday and Tuesday, but got better Wednesday and Thursday. Winds up to 30 mph made it tough to hear and detect, but I stuck it out and brought back a few coins. One morning I only found 2 quarters, but happened to search and...
