Found an 1879 tie tack/cuff link

I'm sorry to say I haven't been out MD'ing much the last few months. The weather has been great here lately so I decided to go to a small "unmarked" park not far from here. I hunted it hard with my DFX that last few years and managed a large cent and a very nice 1861 half dime. I wasn't...

Super 12" with the V-very 1st time out

Great find, thanks for the report.

    V3's coil

robertk is right. The stock coil is a "DD" type coil so to pinpoint the target sweep your coil back and forth to determine the point where the coil is directly over the target. Then, while your coil is over that point, move 90 degrees to the side and repeat the process. The point where the...

Problem with V3 at FRESH water beach - suggestions appreciated

Thanks for the input. I hope to get up to the beach again next week. I'll try to get additional information. Several things could be helping to make this difficult. The sand on these beaches are often replenished by bringing in sand from elsewhere, it is a giant undertaking. I don't know...

    Battery Life ?

If you are using the wireless headphones you can reduce battery drain by dropping the Wireless Headphone Power Level from 7 to 3 or 4.

Problem with V3 at FRESH water beach - suggestions appreciated

I've had my V3 for 2 months and have had fairly good results at inland locations. This time of the year I like to hunt the fresh water beaches in my area. I've been to the these beaches 5 or 6 times with the V3 and have just not been able to get it to work properly. Today, I was determined to...

    v3 nickel id

I agree with Jimmyk. I am finding more nickles with the V3 than I did with the DFX. Mine are coming in at a fairly stable VDI of 19. If you only did VDI's around 19 than your percentage will be higher than if you VDI's a little further out (+-) than 19.

Can a New bee learn to use a V3?

Boy, I don't know. My first detector was my DFX which I used for 4 years and just upgraded to the V3. I'd say I was in the advanced user category with the DFX. I think the V3 would be much harder to learn and to get use to the signals/data than the DFX was. I'm glad that I had the DFX...

Well I bit the Bullet- trading the DFX

I've had my V3 since June. Yesterday, my DFX sold on Ebay with 4 coils, a DFX library, and a pinpointer for $1,075. You will like the V3 once you get use to it.

Hey, thanks that is pretty nice.

    Wireless headphone problem

Has anyone else had a problem with the surface material that covers the foam pads that go around your ears peeling off? Only on one of the ear pieces the outside material is peeling off, it looks a lot like your skin when it peels from a sunburn.

    Spectra... first thoughts

Maybe I missed the information in one of your posts but I'm trying to understand why you are having difficulty seeing the screen when the coil is on the ground, are you extra tall? I'm 5' 9" and don't have any problem at all.

A nice find followed by a dry spell

I know the feeling John, hang in there, things will pick up. Where in NY State do you live. Are you near NW PA?

    Super 12 or Eclipse 950?

I would vote for the 9.5". I've used both my 9.5" and Super 12" from my DFX on my V3. Both work fine and work with transmit boost. I've used these coils for years on my DFX also. The Super 12 doesn't get much more depth than the 9.5" but is only 3 oz heavier than the 9.5" and does cover a...

Found a few keepers with the V3

Well, I said I was "starting to get the hang of it". Even though I'm very comfortable with the DFX there is a lot to learn with the V3. I've only had it a month or so and am still working at "getting it".

Found a few keepers with the V3

Last week I knocked on the door and obtained permission to hunt at this home. As you might expect, there was a ton of trash in the ground, very challenging. Ran the 9 1/2" coil from my DFX on the V3 for this hunt. Three days of hunting produced this collection plus a lot of trash that...

    Hot Rock Reject

Thanks for the confirmation, I think that will help hunting in my area a lot. :wiggle:

    Hot Rock Reject

It is raining here today so I am spending some time looking at the V3 Complete Owner's Guide. As you know, hot rock signal responses are assigned to VDI +95. One feature I like on my DFX is that when you set the Hot Rock Reject control to 10 the hot rock response is simply ignored. Settings...
