First time at salt water beach with AT Pro

I took a little ride to the coast yesterday for a seafood festival and got to spend about a half hour on a beach, that was a popular hang-out in my younger days, at low tide with the AT Pro. I wasn't sure what to expect having never used the Pro for anything but fresh water and dirt up to this...

How deep will the 8x11 go? It depends...

I was at an old home site with the Pro yesterday and picked up a strong signal in the 80's. A can, I thought, it was too big for a coin. I dug down about 2 feet and found the flat top of a metal container. Hmmmm, wouldn't it be nice if I've found the old homeowner's stash! I widened the hole...

    Scratch and dent

I had to send my machine back for repair; I struck a rock in the water while swinging and it started acting crazy. While it was there I asked if they had any deals on a 5x8. Picked up a scratch and dent special for much less than they're asking on EBay. Something to think about if you're...

    Magnet experience

I'm thinking of adding a magnet to my arsenal for pulling artifacts out of streams. The choices online are mind boggling and I'm not sure what to buy. I'd appreciate hearing of the experiences of others who have used them. Thanks and HH!

    Deep Signals

I know there are targets there under the sand but they're so deep, the Pro is not seeing them. What tips do you old timers have for finding the deep stuff? I'm not too good at deciphering a description of a signal. Can you send me to a website that has a video or the sound of a deep signal...

    Spotted by Google earth

I was checking out one of my favorite water spots on Google Earth and lo and behold there was my kayak parked in my spot and there I was looking for gold. I checked the date of the shot against my log, measured the length of the kayak and sure enough it had to be me. Watch out fellows they're...

    Metal detector tattoos

I've been thinking that some body art with a metal detector theme would look good on me. Any of you got some you're proud of? I sure would like some ideas.

    This winter is getting OLD!

March 3rd???? High of 17 degrees with a stiff 23 mph wind. I've had it with this winter! My son came by the other day and said, "Dad, if you want to move to California, I'll go too." Mama is game. If I can get my daughter and two grandchildren signed up, we may do it. Where would a fellow...

    Fantasy location

This long and cold winter has me fantasizing about a dream metal detecting vacation. Help me out here guys and girls! If you could go anywhere in the world for two weeks of metal detecting, where would it be? Please convince me by explaining your choice.

Staying in Shape for Metal Detecting

I just cleaned and tallied up my 2013 clad finds and realized that I knealt down and got back up just over 1000 times in 2013! This hobby is not for couch potatoes! I'm getting up there in years but so far have no problem doing those 1000 plus squats and deep knee bends mainly because I do a...

Tips needed for MDing old foundations

I have located several old foundations that I'll be MDing. They are in bad shape, i.e., foundation stones have toppled into the cellar, etc. Some have obvious signs of having been detected before (sadly, unfilled holes). Tips from some of you more experienced MDers would be appreciated...

    Asking Permission from Corporate Owners

I've located several old home sites on USGS maps and have found that the land is now owned by LLC's or Corporations. These types of owners have liability foremost in their minds. I want to write to request permission to MD these sites but don't want to waste my time and postage. Do any of you...

    First large Cent

I found my first large cent today. It's in pretty rough shape but it got the ol' ticker going when I found her. I have access to old USGA maps online and noticed that there was a structure on an old dirt road not too far from my house. The property is now town property. I was able to get the...

    Sandbar Rings 2 & 3

No gold yet but the sandbar is still producing. The bright ring is .925 from Mexico, the dark ring is tungsten. I went there today, was cool and breezy and a little chilly, got shut out except for some clad. I'll need to get the waders or wetsuit out from here on in.

Scratching the itch in a half hour.

I had a half hour to kill today so went to a local soccer field. As I started to the field from the unpaved parking lot I turned the machine on and walked with it about 2 inches above the crushed stone. BEEP BEEP. Hmmm, a dime. I walked a little further, BEEP, BEEP. Another dime. When I got...

When is a pulltab not a pulltab?

I spent an hour and a half on my favorite lake sandbar today and dug a lot of pulltabs. They come in at a solid 56/58. There were so many that I considered not digging them after awhile. What have you guys and gals found besides pulltabs when your VDI is showing 56-58??

    Sand Bar Day 4

What a day! It was about 78 degrees under a clear blue sky today with barely a breeze. I took the kayak out to the sandbar (it's getting easier and faster) and there were about 12 boats there ahead of me. I was the only one with a metal detector. I spent about an hour and a half on a straight...

    2nd dollar coin this season

20 MPH winds out of the NE made the lake a little too choppy to kayak in so I couldn't get to the sandbar today. Instead, I took the bike to a tot lot to feed my habit. I used my super sniper coil to get close to the equipment and came away with $4.29 in clad in just over an hour including my...

What thickness/type wetsuit do I need?

I'd like to extend my water hunting season by wearing a wetsuit. I'm thinking of getting a bib type since I'll be in waist deep water at the most. The water temp in November will probably get down into the 50's. I usually hunt for about an hour to hour and a half at a time. I'm not sure of...
