What is the absolute best metal detector for metal detecting in freshwater? (lakes, creeks, and rivers)

Neither the CZ or Excalibur are very sensitive to very small gold. Running in discrimination mode, both will identify some pieces of small gold as low tone (CZ speak for iron) or null (Excal speak for iron). Both are good in saltwater. The lowest discrimination setting on the Excal identifies...

Fisher AQ PI, Another gold for the pile!

Nice! Is that a shot gun shell in the upper left? I always enjoyed finding the shells and seeing if I could read the stamping and roughly date them from the stamping.

What is the absolute best metal detector for metal detecting in freshwater? (lakes, creeks, and rivers)

Tiger Shark has no support now as the factory has been closed for years. I have used one (actually still have one sitting in the closet) and it is not as deep detecting as either my Fisher CZs or Minelab Excaliburs in fresh water. I have not used a Manticore. From what I've read, the Manticore...

    Hunt

Nice. I've had a couple of the five inch coils for the CZ and did not find them to be able to detect very deep although in very target dense ground, they do well separating targets.

New find, just looking for suggestions

Using google images I'm not finding any exact matches. There are a few suggested matches that are "wheel crosses" or very old bronze pendant from the early years of the Christianization of England. Also had some suggestions of Viking era things. Perhaps enlist the help of a historian in your...

The 8 inch Tornado cable problem

Even finding one, let alone three is a rare occurrence these days. Congrats!

I doubt it but did you hear of anyone crazy enough.......

I found a map with mile posts down to 12 and it looks like you might be right. I did not capture the mile posts my memory. Last couple of trips we made to the outer banks, I came back with some junk jewelry and wife found sea glass and tumbled bits of shells for use in craft projects.

Some unusual finds at the beach

I would venture a hypothesis that the alloy used, and the temperatures of the particular crematorium was at, put things close enough to melting point that the metal flowed some and the ashes became part of the new "mold" for the metal. But that is only a guess.

Some unusual finds at the beach

I think they are from scattered cremation remains. A couple of searches on teeth removal prior to cremation indicates what your uncle says is not the norm. "So can you get your gold back before the body is cremated? Maybe, but it's not really cost effective. Only licensed dentists are allowed...

Different Perspective – 20 Gold Rings of Yesteryear Equal to One Today!

That carbon fiber shaft is a much newer addition to the original waterproof mod. I like it!

    gold has been scarce ...

Take good care of her and relish the time with her. My mom has been gone nearly 11 years now. Wife and I were reminiscing about her yesterday.

    gold has been scarce ...

Thank you! We found very few sharks teeth when we were in Maryland. Now that we are in South Carolina we find a lot of them. Wife and youngest daughter are very good at spotting them. Me, it has to just about jump at me to find it.

    gold has been scarce ...

Looking up the ring; it is designed and made by Southern Gates in Charleston, SC. Here in this area, sharks teeth are pretty plentiful. In the same couple of hours on the beach, wife found 8 of them.

    gold has been scarce ...

At least I got a little silver. With the beach replenishment they did last month, I was expecting to be finding a lot of 50 caliber shells and points, but I'm not. Got out for a couple hours with the Excal and was hitting a lot of iron bits. Only three non-ferrous today, a silver ring a quarter...

All in the National Park areas. Great fishing area even though you can't detect there.

We haven't been there in four years. It looks like the little Thai restaurant we liked is still open. Thai Room Restaurant in KIll Devil Hills. If they still have the same cooks you could get your food as spicy as you wanted. I would get medium and it would give me a nice sweat on my head and...

I doubt it but did you hear of anyone crazy enough.......

South of Nags Head the ban on metal detecting starts. Bodie Island is a state park where detecting is banned unless you are looking for something you lost and have obtained a permit to detect for it. South of that is the National Park and no detecting is allowed. Nags Head and north up to...

    Any ideas?

The details shown in this set of pictures make it look a bit different. Could be a book or a harp.
