Thank you! Good eye on the resemblance lol I’ll never not see that now!

    Museum Display

Thank you. The reed plates are there and the iron relics are either being electrocuted or are soaking in white vinegar. They will get added in after they finish their preservation process's.

    Museum Display

After much contemplation I recently agreed to display my metal detecting finds in my local museum. I am currently displaying 3 different homesites. They are all from the mid 1850s through the early 1900s, rarely extending past the 19-teens. These homesites will be rotated in and out every 6...

    Any ideas?

The harp could definitely be some type of book though. The theory proposed on another site suggested maybe a book/journal latch which could make sense if it depicts a woman reading.

    Any ideas?

I agree, I don’t believe it to be a watch fob. Probably predates those some but I could be wrong. Thank you for your input though! I am still unsure of what it is/was.

    Any ideas?

It definitely depicts a woman in pioneer era clothing holding a harp with flowers on either side and above her. Here are some other photographs of it.

    Any ideas?

Others are throwing around the idea of this maybe being a clasp from a book? Any thoughts?

    Any ideas?

I have searched and searched but have not been able to come up with what this could have been. Any ideas would be welcomed. Found on an 1860s-1870s site. I found this badge/medallion type piece along with two hooks from a civil war knapsack and three different period eagle buttons. Very few...

Feast your eyes on this one boys!

Jeff while you were on holiday in England I snuck back down to the site you pulled this button from a dozen times but haven’t found one comparable! Lol just kidding! It truly is a rare button find and was a cool moment to watch live.

    Double Seated Day

For me it will be tough to beat that hunt…this year anyway! Lol Someone else told me this about the coins: “Abe Lincoln was a spry 33 year old when that older dime was minted. He was a newlywed, just finishing his stint as an Illinois state representative. His US Representative career and...

    Double Seated Day

Went out for a full 8 hour hunt with a couple of friends. We hit several homesites in the farm fields and dug a ton of targets. Tough relic day but one buddy managed a few good relics, one being a very cool bridal rosette with an horseshoe and the words good luck on it. He also found a likely...

    Medallion

Here are some more pictures after a little oiling. I’ll post more after it dries and gets a wax coating. Still no clue what it is. I cleaned out the dirt behind the clips on the back. No evidence of leather or wood. The hole at the bottom is not something someone did with a hammer and nail...

    Medallion

Hopefully I’m posting in the right area. Found this medallion on a site that produced a couple Civil War Eagle buttons and two buckles to a knapsack. Really no other targets to mention or to give any more context. No writing, marks or other motifs. Appears to depict a woman in a dress...

    What do I have?

I am very new to native artifacts so my knowledge base is pretty low. I do have an idea of what this may be but I’d like some informed opinions from folks in the know on this type of stuff. Found in a farm field in Southern Iowa/Northern Missouri. Sandstone/Soapstone. Appears to have been...

Think I Found The Old Home Place

That well is mid 1800s for sure if not earlier. Stone lined wells predate 1900 by quite a lot. That will be a great site!

Think I Found The Old Home Place

Great finds! Crazy how that shank got bent like that without breaking.
