Musket ball making in the field.

I'm in the UK and have access to a site that saw action during the English civil war. The musket ball count is well into 3 figures, also found lead ingots, and sprues from moulds. Have come across a patch of about 30sq ft and it throws up pieces of lead as shown. They are all flat, and all have...

    Legend coils

My new Legend will be here tomorrow, just having a browse around the Internet and came across the "Detech Ultimate" 13" coil for the Legend. Now this coil was on most of my Minelabs as I found them excellent. Very little info on them being used on Legend though. Anyone had one?.

    Something different

Nice to find a complete one, was hoping for a makers/owners mark to be on it but unfortunately no. Post medieval as bronze not pewter.

    Sovereign and "nulling"

Many years ago, it was reported during discussion on another forum? about the Explorer being able to register a non-discriminated target during a null. Only mentioned this as during some testing with the Sovereign I've bought, the recovery time seemed to take forever. Ok I was using a Tornado...

    What constitutes "working order" 🤔

Finally had the Sovereign delivered, bought unseen (only photos) but after a few messages the deal was done. I've already posted about the cable sheathing, but it needs a good service as the threshold control either works or doesn't, its either full on volume or silent. The actual volume control...

    Sovereign Elite coil

Just picked up a cheap Elite, all working order but Tornado coil cable coating is practically non existent. Knew this before I bought it, any recommendations for replacement coil, will only be used on my clean sites.

    Etrac with 1050 fbs coil

Anyone tried this combo, think my pro coil has developed a fault and got chance of a new 1050 (explorer black version) to try before spending a lot of money.

    Test beds

Have just moved house and can finally find a patch of the garden to put in a test bed. At my last house I used a manual post hole borer with a 6" wide auger, when it settled down it served me well for over 16 years. Have any of you just used a quicker method of poking a hole in the ground...

    New site = big silver

All 3 fall within a similar time scale 1600/1650, one with hole in is either a copper based forgery or as more commonly thought just debased silver due to civil war, still.....not complaining

    Which version?

Right, have the funds and fancy a legend, have the recent updates improved anything? Only asking incase I come across a used one that hasn't been updated, thanks all.

    Had the last laugh...

Land owner stopped whilst I was getting gear out of car, questioned my sanity, parentage, religion etc then drove off laughing, deep ploughed after crop failure, hard going but ran coil down trench caused by plough, got too places not normally hitable due too depth. Got loads of lead and these 2...

    More UK civil war finds

Went back to where there was supposedly a civil war skirmish, found whats possibly a lead ingot (is lead) more musket balls than shown, and best bit of all is the lead remains from a mold, can even see bevelled edges where pistol/musket balls have been cut off.

    New straight shaft

Am looking to put a straight shaft on my red heat detector. At moment its fitted with an S type affair which I don't like, came across this handy bit of kit, cost me £45 or around $57 simply add bottom shaft, and with a little bit of work the control unit. Am ordering another for my Deus 2 as am...

    Red Heats 1st serious session

After a few hours of bench testing I've come to the conclusion that this is one of those machines that performs way better in the ground than in air. These are just a few of the control settings that I've come to understand...well nearly. 1. Iron in/out switch. This works with the...

    First beach silver

Fields far too wet due to recent rain, so got a surprise when I went to a local beach. They spend hundreds of thousands blowing sand up to bolster the defences but mother nature had other ideas. 2 high tides and a howling on shore wind and she took it all back, and then some, sixpence really did...
