    Old stone Spearhead info, please?

Found a neat old Indian spearhead in central Penna. This area used to fave a lot of Lenapi's, but the rounded base hass me fooled. It's butterscotch colored. Any guesses as to tribe or rough dating would be GREAT! Thanks! Tagamet

How can I tell if a slug I found is OLD

I'm assuming that there are markings that would help determine whether the lead slug is "modern" or not. I found this at a spot that would seem to make it unlikely that the slug is old, but there's no harm asking. Thanks in advance, Tagamet

I was just to the Fisher site and

it mentioned that the F-4 would be "out" in April. Has it been released yet? I figured that I'd have heard some chatter about it if it was out in people's hands. Thanks in advance, Tagamet

Need advice on my current quest

While hunting at a local soccer field, getting familiar with the F75, I was approached by a mom and her daughter. The girl had lost a family heirloom the day before, whiich was a tiny gold ring with the birthstones of the mom's grandparents. The girl was about 8 or 9 years old (and clearly...

    Newbie questions on target recovery

Although I've been metal detecting for quite a while, I'm planning on trying freshwater detecting this summer. I'm in landlocked Pennsylvania, but my part of the state is blessed with innumerable freshwater streams, the Westbranch of the Susquehanna river, and a few flood control type lakes...

What's you favorite pinpointer and why?

I'm mostly interested in pinpointers that A) can be used "across machines" and B) are waterproof. I've used the vibraProbe and like it, but it just broke yesterday, so I'll need to buy a new pinpointer. Thanks in advance, Tagamet lgeguzis@comcast.net

When hunting with the F75 what do you normally hear?

Especially, between targets. Mine seemes to keep up a constant chatter of clicks and pops. So it's hard to tell which scratchy noise is a good target. The unit GBs ~66, and I've tried: Resetting to Factory settings Changing frequencies Changing earphones Reducing the sensitivity (as low as 30)...

Is everyone (or anyone) using the full shoulder width sweep

that the manual suggests repeatedly? It specifically recommends against the "waggle" or shortened sweep I'm used to using. Thanks, Tagamet

Got out for an hour or so this afternoon with the F75

Got out for an hour or so this afternoon with the F75. Felt more than a little silly, whipping 6 inches of snow into a froth. My wife had the vehicle with the MD tools in it (grounds for divorce in Penna), so I was more than a little handicapped (aside from the obvious). Snow cover, absolutely...

Why would Fisher be releasing another model so soon

that has a lot of the same features as the F-75? In fact, it looks to even have a 4 inch concentric coil available that I HAVEN'T seen for the F-75 ( a coil I would buy in a heartbeat). TIA, Tagamet

Is the F-75 deep enough to handle

    these conditions? [attachment 51107 groan07jpg.jpg]

I've been away for quite a while. Is the SE the latest version of the Explorer

or have they come out with a new model? Also, I have an Explorer II. Now that the SE has been out for a while, have people weighed in on whether or not it's worth it to upgrade my Explorer II? TIA, Tagamet

    Help with platypus pinpointing

Anyone have any handy hints on how to pinpoint with the platypus coil on an Explorer II? Where on the coil itself does the object end up "centered"? Thanks in advance, Tagamet

    Camera recomendations?

Hi all, Which cameras do people like that do well taking close-up shots of coins (macros?) which would also be suitable for taking pictures while taking a family trip across the USA? A "give and take" discussion here would be great, but so would direct replies to my email address...

Need help pinpointing with large coil (Excelerator 14 DD)

I have a WOT for my Explorer II that I'm struggling with, but have been told that I should get a 14 inch Excelerator coil in it's place. Can some kind soul please describe the pinpointing process for the 14 inch DD Excelerator coil? I've already gotten several good descriptions of pinpointing...

    Another mystery coin

This almost seems like a joke, but are there two headed coins? I found one today that is about the size of a half dollar and on both sides there is a man's head in profile facing to the left. It's not totally clean yet, but I don't want to damage it. The patina looks like it's copper and *part*...

    Pinpointing with the WOT coil?

Well, I for one am exhausted. I went out after work today to try out the WOT coil on my Expolorer II and dug some holes large enough to hold several folding chairs and a small child. The site is a good spot, but REALLY trashy. I had been picking away with the 5 inch coil and getting clad coins...

Looking for opinions on mid size DD coils

Hi, I'm relatively new to using an Explorer II, but love the machine. I have a 5 inch Excellerator coil and a 15 inch WOT coil, but the stock coil went nuts and needs to be replaced. I'm just asking for opinions on which mid-sized colis people like, and why. Something in the 8 to 12 inch range...
