Mr Max is leaving Beach and Water Forum:sad:

I don't know if GDM is going to leave this forum. He has made both forums interesting, funny and educational and posted some great pictures. His waterproofing of the SOV convinced me to waterproof my GT and I'm sure many others too. I don't know the reason he is leaving. Things change and...

Where did that ultimate SOV Accessory go?

About a year ago there was some guy on this forum touting A "SIGNAL ENHANCER", something like that. . I know on DOC's Page they have something similar for gold machines. If I remember this guy was going to send one to RICK for an evaluation. Anyone know about this item or similar...

GT is up for sale. I'm moving to the WET side. (long)

For the past two month I have been water hunting exclusively using my friends Excalibur 1000. I have had a wonderful opportunity to hunt Florida Gulf waters From knee deep to chest deep, from dead calm to breaking waves and strong currents and rips. Throw in a liberal dose of stinging jellyfish...

    A walking lady and friend

I've been searching a long long time for this lady. The 1942 friend showed up ten feet away an hour later. Thirty-five hours hunting in May - Lots and lots of clad, some nice beach finds, and 6 Wheaties 1929 - 1949, Some relics - an early 1900 brass Navy anchor button, a WW2 good conduct...

GT light -w/concentric coil on the beach.

I went to the beach this morning with my GT light. No meter, no S-1 probe just my new 8in concentric coil. Time on the beach 1 hr 35 min. I got this coil to use in high trash areas on land but I'm now thinking its going to replace my 10in Tornado that Ive been using as a beach coil. Why? I can...

Lots of coil questions here lately - Here is some info on 8in concentric coil from Kellyco

I've been interested in the 8in Excelerator Concentric Coil for my Sov/GT since finding out that concentric work really well in low mineral soil, and thats what I have here in Coastal NW Florida. My other coils are Dbl-D's. I use their little 5 in Coil for trash areas but wanted more depth. My...

Beach hunting Method revisit - Using a shovel and a GT w/S-1 probe.

I just scanned Beach/Water forum, and ran across post from SKULLY (GH dry sanding). The post is about his method of hunting dry sand and making target recovery really fast using a shovel and a probe. The basic technique is - use a shovel to get target out, than scan the pile with a Probe. No...

Anybody using the Excel Concentric Coil on a Sov/GT?

I have a 5in Excel coil and it works good in trash and is the coil to use when its really bad. But I have proven to myself that it just gives up too much depth to my stock 10in DD. I'm thinking a concentric 8in would be a better trade off. What do you think? HH Don

    What is your hunting style?

A bigger coil not chance might improve his destiny, but you've got to give him style points. The detector looks like a cell phone on a stick. (Real Estate Ad from Florida magazine)

A pretty lady from New Orleans. The GT did good.

My digital camera will not take closeups. I did these with my scanner - it sucks too. This picture thing is just too hi tech for me. Just don't have the right equp, but I wanted to show the lady and some others. Florida is much more than beach hunting. Found the lady at one of my researched...

    questions on headphone Tones.

I Always get good information and answers here so I'm back with a question on headphones. My Sov/GT came with a pair of cheapies that I immediately bagged and replaced with another set I had. Then I found an old pair of stereo headphones, each side individually controlled for volume, and plenty...

Where have all the postings gone?

I see by the count of posts that the Xterra forum has just passed this forum in total count. Granted, its a new family of detectors and new technology. Everybody likes new. But I have also noticed that many Sov users post finds on other forums and not here. Why is that? In particular, Ive...

The Ray Gun gets an S-1 upgrade.

Finally followed Rick(ND) advice and mounted an S-1 Sunray Probe from Dixie. After his detailed post on how he used it I was sold. The only thing I had to work out was how to mount it on my GT modified handle. I was afraid that the piggyback setup would put the meter to high. so I ordered an...

Hunting with the GT in Pinpoint Mode.

A recent posting string on the Xcalibur indicates that some Xcal users search in Pinpoint Mode. Is this a similar mode to that available on the GT? I know the GT manual states not to search in pinpoint mode because ground balance is disabled (Pg 21). But if you do what I've done on a couple of...

    Metal Detecting in Maryland

I will visit Maryland in April and I have an opportunity to hunt an old mill site (private property) including all buildings and grounds. I would also like to detect other areas while there. Can anyone inform me of restrictions, laws, etc., regarding MDing in Maryland? I am well aware of...

ART-Don't look for any more brass. I found the Clip .

Found these at the mother of all brass sites, an old Air Force/Spec Opts, Army Ranger, training area (Note all blanks). Don't picture in you mind a Florida sunny sandy beach. This area borders a swamp and is covered by thick nasty underbrush. In the 1780's it was a British trading site. First...

Running the GT in A/M Mode,. when and how?

Before detector high tech I found the best search method to use was set the thing in A/M to get the faint and the strong, detect, get a hit, run the Disc knob to see what dropped out, think about it, dig it or pass it. Reverse discrimination worked real good. Now I have the Sov/GT. Lovin it...
