I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

I took it out for a short time to have a little fun with my Grandkids visiting from Washington State. It was well behaved and after 20 minutes we had a 1970 Lincoln to show for our effort while walking a path next to a nearby golf course. We got some inconsistent trashy returns and it was trash...

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

I'll consider taking my CTX out soon. I still need to sort out the coil issue. I'm convinced that is what it is. Life has been too busy as of late, but now that my free time is not being dedicated to the quad rebuild I have more time for detecting.

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

Yeah, I forgot more about tech than most the geeks I manage day to day know - as a life long high tech geek. So no, I don't think it's "too much" for me. And the Grand Canyon will be filled with water before you get that PM from me.

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

The top end replacement made a HUGE difference and the carb transplant was the icing on the cake. My near now new 87 Moto 4, 350 engine now purrs like a kitten. To swap the carb I needed an intake manifold adapter to go from a bolt on carb with a gasket, to a clamp on carb, but it works. I had...

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

It is an 87 Moto 4 350. It isn't very attractive, nor was it when a family member gave it to me last year. He said it was possessed! LOL I had just sold my 2008 Suzuki King Quad 750 to buy a used motorcycle for my warm weather commute to work, and this family member knew I was a better wrench...

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

Thanks for the great input. One thing that is buggin me, my CTX is probably a generation one (if there is a such thing) machine. I got it not long after they came out and I have heard about Minelab mods to improve their performance and to avoid leaks in the early models. Except for firmware...

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

Will do. I am currently rebuilding the motor on a 87 Yamaha quad which is taking up all of my spare time. I would not be rebuilding such an old machine if people here in the Peoples Republic of California were anywhere close to sane when it comes to the value of the old POS quads they are...

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

I guess I hunt things of value, but I primarily look for coins. The older, the better, because I crave the song of silver in my headset! And gold coins are about as common as unicorns!

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

I live in an area Roy Rodgers made famous called "The High Desert" which is north of San Bernardino - we are the edge of the Mojave Desert. Our valley is made up of Apple Valley (where Roy retired), Victorville, and Hesperia where I live. We are about 90 miles due east of Los Angeles. Roy and...

IDX, you nailed it! I have no plans to replace it unless I can PROVE it actually hates me and a divorce is the only option! LOL

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

I can say I have never had a coil message of any kind, just noise when it is tapped manually or when sweeping. I did check it at the plug and it was fine. But I do plan to try another coil.

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

I fully agree when it comes to speed with the GTI, it is old tech and microprocessors have come a long way since it's day. Using the V3i I had no real issues with it's speed. Granted I do not swing it at warp speed like some folks I have seen, but it was fine for me. I still consider it a very...

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

First, thanks for the thoughtful reply and here are my answers. I live in southern Cal, but don't claim it - LOL. I was born and grew up in on Virginia's Eastern Shore and go back there every year to visit family. Last year was the first year I did not take the CTX or any detector with me. I...

Garret has acquired Whites. Great news!

I had a V3i and traded it in for a top of the line detector from Australia - that's all of a hint I will give. While it offers some things the V3i did not, there is not a detecting day that goes by that I do not miss the V3i and I would gladly pick up another in a hot minute. I have no problem...

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

I hear you when it comes to knobs and I agree - we don't want that. I want to realize the promise of of the CTX - and I have heard it called "user friendly" but that has definitely not been my experience. In a nutshell I want it to be predicable. The GTI and V3i gave me great dig, no dig...

I'm loosing my enthusiasm for the CTX

I have been away from the forum for a while because the frustration with my CTX got to the point that I took a season off (2020) - sorry. I got my CTX toward the end of the first year they came out and I have to be honest, I am a bit disappointed after spending 5+ years working with it, but I...

Still a CT newbie but........something is wrong

I have had my CT for about 8 months. I have used it exclusively on land and have gotten VERY comfortable with it, and yes, I get great results. One of my goals when I purchased it was to start using it to wade in the water here on the Pacific coast and also when I visit my former home in...
