    A good hunt at a 1920s home.

I got out for a short time Saturday afternoon and hunted a house where I have had permission for several months. We finally got enough rain to wet the ground and loosen the soil. My first signal was the merc. Yahoo! I seldom get silver in the first hole. The Teddy Roosevelt Presidential...

    Good day at 1920s home.

I went out with the Safari today to a friend's 1920s home. My first find was the 1942 merc. Then I got the Theodore Rooservelt Presidential coin, followed by the very worn Freemason medallion. I did the rubbing so the details would come out. I think it dates back to the 1940s.

    Any silver is good silver.

I got out for a couple of hours yesterday. I went to a park that is near an old school. Most of the grounds have been reworked, but I found an area with old, large, trees and hunted there. I found some old clad around 6 inches and then got that sweet sound. My wife has a new "dirt ring."

Brass whatzit from the deep South.

I found this brass object several years ago in an old city park in southwest Georgia. It is composed of two pieces. It looks like they were "tacked" together, then one was wraped around the other.

    A little birdie...

I got out for a little while this morning, I was searching alone the perimeter of a well hunted school and got a 21 that was very solid. The find is a small, gold plated bird pin with a green, cut glass eye. It is shown below with a penny for scale.

    Slender Cow Bell?

This bell like object was found where a barn once stood. It is hallow but has not clanger. could it be a candle snuffer? It is about 5 inches high, hollow, and made of heavy cast? brass.

    Quick hunt between showers

I got out this evening to a friend's house that was built in the late 1800's. I was there about an hour before the rain came and managed to get a 1907 IH. My Friend used my old DFX where the barn used to be and found a heavy brass item like a narrow bell. Maybe a candle snuffer? I'll post a...

Found a nice piece of history this weekend

I have permission to detect a lawn at a restaurant. It used to be the front yards of two large homes. No silver this time around, but I pulled this aluminum dashboard registration disc out from about 8 inches down.

Short hunt yields first Safari silver...

I was hunting a trail in the woods above a creek. The SEF 8x6 was attached with the sensitivity set at 18. I retrieved a nickel that gave a solid 13, two twenty gauge caps, a vaccination tag, and a 1954 Rosie. The nickel turned out the be a 1941. It is very corroded. The Rosie is my first...

    I called Bullsh*t! on Youtube.

There is a guy who has posted a 3 part series of videos on youtube comparing the Safari to the Garrett AT pro. He uses an old 10 inch explorer coil on the Safari and has it in AutoSensitivity. The AT is set at one notch from the max. I am a Garrett fan and think the AT Pro is a fine machine...

    The Safari Potential.

Hi, Folks. While I have yet to find silver with my Safari, I am very optimistic. Today I was detecting a home site where I had found a silver ring and I got a clear 37-38. I dug up a 1930 wheatie. It was 8 inches down! I am talking a clear and repeatable signal from all angles. I see...

    I've gone wireless!

I got my Rapoo H3070 headphones yesterday. I swear they work better than the hard wired ones. They only set me back $42. I have the transmitter Velcro-ed to the top of the stand and connected to the unit with a short cable from radio shack. Cheers! Mark

    Going wireless!

Anyone still swinging the GTI 2500?

Back in 2002 or so Garrett let me test a 2500 from a beginner's point of view. This is back when the white coil and treasure talk was still in use. To this day, I have NEVER used a machine that pinpoints as well as that detector. I hardly needed a pin pointer. I can only assume that that...

    Explorer XS control housing

Hey Folks, My explorer has the cracked cam-lock issue. It is epoxied and working but I would feel better if it were replaced. I am getting nowhere with Minelab. Sas got the last one! LOL! If you have one or a lead, please let me know. Happy hunting! Mark

    Digging the deep, iffy.

I got a deep signal yesterday (36-37). It repeated in one direction but was inconsistent in another. Dug up a 1944 wheatie at 7 inches. My DFX would never have given a signal on that coin.

    Bought an Explorer XS

I bought a well taken care of xs on ebay and was playing with it in my yard using the stock coil. I have a Safari, but I can tell that I am going to like this machine just as well. Using ferrous sounds I found three wheaties in less than 30 minutes. I was operating with no discrimination to...

Hunted about an hour this morning.

I hunted an active school that has loads of trash, clad, and the potential for silver. I used high trash, ferrous sounds, auto sensitivity, and the SEF 8x6 coil. I switched to conductivity sounds before I dug, just to see if there was a difference. I got a quarter, five dimes, and 3 nickels...

Inserting after-market coil cable in lower rod

I noticed how difficult it was to insert an after-market coil cable into the Safari lower rod. I solved this problem by tying a sinker onto a piece of twine and making a slip knot on the other end. I simply tightened the slip knot over the end of the coil cable, as shown, and ran the sinker...

    I got a Safari this week.:clapping:

Hello, everyone! I got a decent deal on a Safari, 5" stealth coil, pinpointer, and the Minelab generic carrybag. About me: I got into detecting back in 2000 with a Garrett Ace 300 which sported the old crossfire coil. About the same time, a buddy of mine bought a Whites XLT Spectrum. He...
