I recently bought a 1850 $1.00 gold coin from ebay, and I noticed on the xterra VDI chart it has gold coins but does NOT list the $1 gold coin. So I tested it to give you the info, it comes in at 8-10. I tried it several times, and it gives 8-10 everytime. Dang those $1 gold coins are tiny! 13mm 0.0484 oz or 1.672grams
just to put that into perspective it is smaller than a dime, which is 18mm

nice coin. A while back a guy approached me while I was detecting and asked if it detected gold coins. He pulled out one just like yours and put it down. My Fisher 1266 sounded off great on it. steve in so az

Smallest US coin ever minted!

The Club usually buried a token for a small gold coin in most every Club Hunt! One year that was the only coin that my friend Liz found and she sold it back to the club for $25.00! It is very tiny for sure....If I found one... with my luck, I would lose it! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty
