yes, both of the tornado coils are submersible. They are the same ones used on the Excals.
I know what you mean about the Xterra coils. To bad, minelab could have really helped themselves if they could have made all the Xterra coils good for wading and given them longer cables. The control head would be easy to hang around ones neck for wading.

I run a coil cover on mine, and would find sand and dirt under the cover at times, and would have to clean it out. Finally, I just sealed it with silicone, to stop the problem, with possible falsing noises. You might even consider sanding it lightly and using bedliner paint on it instead of the cover. I'll probably do that someday to save a little weight. Good luck on your hunting. Cya-Mark
