10.5DDMF and 18K Ring

Walked across the park field set up 705 then in less than a minute a 6" TDI 28 and didnt budge a number. Dug a 4" plug and at the bottom of the hole in the red clay was the tip of a ladies 18k wedding ring. First find and its paid for its self with the thrill of the find. A very heavily hunted and populated part of the park(small area of grass sourrounded by concrete sidewalk). I know as Ive hunted it several times with different MDs. Is dated and engraved. Date could be many things but suspect its the wedding date. Well over 50 yrs. Got some research to do! Guess the 6" coil I got could draw dust. The 10.5 hit a 10" Rosie dime in test garden. You guys werent kidding when you said I would like it. This is not a heavy coil to me at all. Some of the coin finds were surrounded with "slaw" and still could pick out as good targets. 03' Hotwheels fire truck was well below grass line and not crushed by mowers. Still has some red clay on wheels. So far the right coil for the 705. Used the default 3 mode with just iron desc. but still has impressive depth. I found a 1898 Barber dime not 8' away from where this was found tucked against a barrier wall and a 35 Washington just across the field on another barrier wall this past summer. Went to elementary school across the street in the 60's and park was old then. This place keeps on giving to the newbe. JR

Cool!

I have a lot of clad to find before I can get a 10.5DD.

Great find! I agree with you about the thrill of finding gold. Detectors and coils pay for themselves in sheer enjoyment. HH

please excuse my ignorance but why does everyone call these coils 10.5 DD when they are 10in?

help would be nice :clapping:

That's it. You are spoiled for life.

amberjack...The coil measures 10 & 1/2" across. Or 10.5 coil. TomB

Hi
thanks heaps for the photos! good job!

i am just new to the fantastic hobby and want one of these for my x-terra and went looking for a 10.5in DD coil and could only find a 10in DD coil so if I buy a 10in DD coil it will measure 10.5in like in your great photos?

thanks again for the effort very much appreciated :clapping:

I just took my 10.5 DD off and replaced it with my old favourite - the 5x10 HF DD.

I still have to learn the science of the coil frequencies. I mean what can a 10.5 MF coil find that a 5x10 HF DD coil cannot and vice versa?

hi
what do you use yor detector for? i was just thinking that the 10.5DD is not water proof and i am down the beach most of if not all the time so water proof would be much better for me!

the 5 x 10in is that water proof? how do you find the 5 x 10 compared to the standard 9in?

i just feel as though the standard 9in coil i might be missing a bit of depth and gold rings ect...

so much to learn :surprised:

Sorry, the 5x10" is not waterproof But is a really great coil
Look in Coil selection in FAQ in the sticky's at beginning of Xterra forum to see what coil is what

JohnTx has just listed a 5x10" and a 6" coil which is waterproof in the for sale section at good prices

Good luck

The 3khz and the 7.8khz are less sensitive to alum. trash(slaw) and ID slaw correctly in my experence The 3 and 7 both are better for deeper silver. HF coils tend to be sens. to smaller objects at depth and I have had them go right over silver quarters and miss it but hit silver dimes at depth. Go back over spot with MF and deeper silver quarter appears. Have a different MD for beach hunting.
