10" DD 7.5Khz submersible?

Short answer.....No.
It is water resistant, which means it can take wet grass, the occational wave splash or getting hosed off at the end of a hunt, but should not be submerged.

That said, I do know of folks that have waterproofed them. And FWIW, the two 10.5" DD's, the 5x10" HF Eliptical, and the Coiltek 3kHz 6" DD are the only coils for the Xterra that are NOT waterproof. All the rest are.

Thanks Longhair, while I got you my GT 10.5 DD is waterproof right?
HH

I believe it is. But to be sure you should ask over in the Sovereign forum.

out of interest do you think they were deliberately not made waterproof so not to compete with their higher range machines with waterproof dd coils. Obviously things have changed now since their introduction

No. I don't think that at all. You have to remember that the Xterra was the first with a chip in the coil. It doesn't explain why some are waterproof and others are not. But considering that only four out of 12 coils aren't waterproof, and all four are DD coils, and Coiltek's 15" coils are the only waterproof DD coils, it is probably safe to guess that it has something to do with properly tuning DD's with V-Flex chips.

That's my guess. Maybe Randy will come along with a more definitive answer, since he was in on the development of the Xterra.

Whether or not a coil is waterproof or water resistant is dependent on the design and manufacturing (molding) process. Not the series of detector. The difference between a coil being waterproof or water-resistant has more to do with external water pressure than simply being in a "water-tight" compartment. Throughout the entire Minelab lineup, you will find a mix of waterproof and water-resistant coils, again depending on the design process. For example, the X-TERRA elliptical is of the same design as the elliptical Goldsearch coil, both of which are water-resistant. The 11-inch Pro style coils, as used on the ETRAC, is fully waterproof. Unfortunately, getting that size and design to work with the X-TERRA has not been successful. But trust me, it is not because they've not made the effort. As the technology of coil development advances, we will likely see less of water-resistant coils and more waterproof coils. Case in point.....the CTX 3030, which not only has waterproof smart coils, but is an entirely waterproof detector. (again, up to a certain depth, due to external water pressure limitations) But for the time being, coils of one design are either catagorized as waterproof or water-resistant, based on design. And if you take a look at Minelab's website, you'd find that the same "classification" follows across the various models they represent, regardless of the cost of the detector they work with. JMHO HH Randy

Thanks Boss! I knew you'd have some insight on the topic.

Hi,
you might consider the Coiltek 15"WOT coils which are waterproof
