10x12 or 12x15 SEF - what woud you choose

I'm very happy with the stock coil, but there are a couple of places I think a larger coil would get more depth. I did a search and read back posts on these coils. The reason I'm thinking about it, is I have some credit built up at one of our sponsers and I think at this point in time I'd like to go with a bigger coil as opposed to a smaller one.

Other than the weight - I've read about that issue, what would you choose between the two. Personally I'm leaning toward the 12x15 SEF.

Thanks guys,

the 12x15 for sure. The 10x12 is too close to the pro-coil size and in my opinion, the Pro-coil beats it. From what I am seeing, many more people are finally realizing it too.

But until (if ever) Minelab make a 15" version of the Pro-coil, the 12x15 has a place in your equipment bag. Just be sure to get a swingy thingy or something similar for it:thumbup:

Thanks Bob. I was thinking the 10x12 was also very close to the Pro-coil. Appreciate your advice.

I agree.....I am always using the 12x15. Much better coverage, and it really punches the deepies hard. When I first started out detecting I was in some really trashy sites and I would not recommend it for these applications, but that is not to say you will not find a few keepers. Now I tend to go to sites that do not have alot of modern trash and this coil really stands out. The hunt I went on in the fall in Long Island NY I brought along the 12x15 and I think that is why I had so much sucess. I cannot tell you that it is a deeper coil, but I will say that it definately amplifies the signal. HH Joe

I have tried the 10x12 and the 12x15.. I spent a couple days going over several areas where I thought I may have ran out of depth with The Pro Coil.. The results were no new targets.. I am a coin hunter , if you are looking for larger items the 12x15 may be of some use.. Now with the smaller coils, namely the 6x8 and the 6" Excelerator . I can go to any trashy site and find something good.. If you don't have a good small coil you probably have been avoiding a lot of good spots that will reward you far more than the big coils ever will .. I sold the 12x15 immediately and should have sold the 10x12 also .... As long as people keep using the Pro coil and larger coils, Im all set for finding good spots to hunt... wildherre

as it gives much more ground coverage in more open/less trashy areas.Pro coil beats the 10x12 in all tests in my ground and is lighter as well.I found the 12x15 to be no deeper than pro coil on nickle size coins and smaller.Quarter size and up can be found a bit deeper with the bigger coil and halves and silver dollars will be hit quite a bit deeper with 12x15 verses pro coil.

12x15 loves deep CW bullets of the larger calibers.12x15 is great for ball fields and similar areas that you want to cover more quickly.12x15 also pinpoints well for it's size. All my test results were in medium or greater mineralized soil.In very low mineralized soil the 12x15 should perform even better.

The 15x12 SEF is a great coil to own! I own one and think it's a must for anyone. I like being able to cover more ground in almost any situation.
