10X5 Detech F5 mounting screw too short !

I just got my Detech 10X5 SEF coil for the F5. It came with no mounting hardware. It turns out the F5 stock screw is not long enough to bolt the coil on. When the screw is in, I don't have enough threads to put the round nut on.The plastic ears on the coil are really thick compared to the Fisher coils or the Detech Ultimate and that's why the screw is too short. Anybody had this issue before ?

Apart from that, the coil seems to work well. I did an air test and updated my old post F5 vs Omega 8000 air test...
 
Following pictures explain the problem. The ears on the Detech coil are so thick that the screw is too short to tighten the stock nut on it. Second picture shows stock coil.
The screws on the F44, F5 and Omega are exactly the same so none of them will work. :(

Take the old one to a good hardware store and ask for some help to get one a bit longer. Lowes may even have them. I agree that the coil maker should provide a replacement bolt with the new coil. Surely they know that the old one will not fit.I would contact them and let them know that I was not happy.
 
I can definitely see your problem with that bolt being to short, the first thing I would do is call the place where you bought the coil from and ask them for help and then if they didn't handle the problem then I'd ask for a refund. This,should be " their" problem not yours, this is a specialty bolt that your not going to fine at a hardware store and why spend all day chasing around town when you should be metal detecting.
 
I don't think Detech advertise they sell a coil with a bolt to attach to the upper rod. I think some people just expect it. One thing for sure is there coils are well built . Now some coil Manufacturers do sell coils with the bolt. But Detect does not. However they do give you a coil cover. Fisher , Whites , Garrett and a few other company's who sells coils , won't give you a coil cover for free. That right there cost much more then a bolt . You just can't satisfy everyone these days , no matter what you do for them. It's everywhere. It is what it is. GS
 
Thanks guys. I contacted the seller. I'll see how he responds. I might contact Detech as well. They need to include mounting hardware for most Fisher/Teknetics detectors.

It doesn't need much more length... a quarter of an inch maybe.
 
If you don't have any luck with the dealer you can find and use the plastic toilet bowl or bathroom hardware kits they sell almost everywhere. You would think that the bolt would be included but not always.
 
Wrong. Here is one I purchased at the local Lowes for less than 2 bucks. It would work for this situation. I purchased it for a backup and keep it in my truck just in case.

Apparently the mounting hardware for the XP Deus will work according to the seller. I'll see if I can get something cheaper. I went to the local Home Depot and they had nothing that would fit. The nylon bolts in the bathroom department were way too big in diameter. I'm not cutting bigger holes in the coil.
 
It's pretty incredible I know but I've done 3 hardware stores (Home Depot and Rona) and one that has auto parts as well (Canadian Tire) and none of them have nylon bolts of that size. They have one size (1/4) in different lengths and that's it ! How pathetic is that ? Anyway, the seller is going to send me a bolt that goes on another detector/coil combo and he thinks this one is going to work. It's coming from Russia so it's going to be awhile. Meanwhile I will try to find one somewhere else in case what he sends me doesn't work.
 
Can anybody tell me for sure what thread diameter the stock bolt is ? Me thinks it's 6mm metric but I'm not absolutely certain. I wrote to Fisher about the size but no response as of yet. There's lots and lots of 6mm nylon bolts on ebay for cheap so I could get it there if the sellers bolt does not fit.
 
Take the nylon bolt to the hardware store. Go to the nut cabinet,. Thread the proper nut on it. Go to the specialty nut and bolt cabinet and look for that combination. Works every time for me.

There is no specialty nut and bolt cabinet in these parts. When one mentions nylon, they look at you as if it's a really weird request.
