11' Coil Triple hitting targets

nonsvch

New member
I've been using my Deus for 4 mouths now with no problems. One night hunting in wet grass running my custom program the detector became extremely sensitive, just holding it in mid air and wiggling it slightly would make it sound off like crazy. Was able to fix that problem by saving my program to a new slot and deleting the old program.

A week later it's now begun making a triple beep when it's swept over a target. Testing with a penny I'll get a strong solid beep passing over the center bridge of the coil and an almost as strong buzzy signal when the target passes under each side of the outer edge of the coil. Sweeping over a target results in a " buzz-beep-buzz". The buzz on the edges will disappear as I pull the coil further away from the target, but return as the coil is swept closer to the target. I'd say at about 4-5 inches from a penny target. It does the same thing in all the factory programs and in all my custom programs.

My question is whether this is a problem i can remedy somehow or will i need to return the detector for repair? Other than this triple beeping the detector seems to work fine although with all the extra signals its driving me a bit nutty in the trashy areas. :)

Sounds like "Audio overload" try turning it down to zero, just in case there is somthing trapped in between the coil and the guard it might be worth taking it off and cleaning it. As for it "sounding off like crazy" I sent mine back to have it checked and they said there was nothing wrong with it.,
but it was doing exactly the sameas yours.

Couple of questions/suggestions.

On very shallow targets, you will hear a double beep indicating you're right on top of the target. But that doesn't sound like your problem.
Does this problem occur at all sites and with all freqs?
Does reducing power/sensitivity provide relief? And, if so, do the adjusted settings still enable you to effectively hunt your sites?
What ground balance method do you use?
Do you have the 9" coil to compare it with?
With the 11" coil, do you use 'ground notch' as seen at the 2 minute mark of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjuANf3J3yg ?
Are you using software v3.2
If you gained temporary relief for the first problem by saving a program to a new slot and deleting the old slot, did you try it again, and if so, did you get temporary relief again?
Have you tried reinstalling or updating your software?
Did you try deleting the coil and re-pairing it?
As Caroly mentioned, be sure there's nothing (especially water) between the coil and cover.
And I don't intend to offend, but ensure you're starting up the machine IAW the manual--held waist high/away from metal until you see the coil completes its calibration (and your headphones turned on if you use them--turn on headphones after calibration is complete). Then move on to ground balancing and other settings.

These are simply suggestions...if you don't get any relief, you may have to send in your coil/controller/headphones so they can troubleshoot your problem.

Video on you tube? Thought the guy used ground notch to elliminate the noise from shaking coil. Can't remember

Your Deus will do that in tracking mode if your ground reading is somewhere around the 80-90 range.
Either use ground notch (easy to set), or use manual GB. Will solve your problem.

Ill try and answer most of those questions..

Problem happens in all frequencies. My 4 custom programs are all same settings. One for each frequency.sue.

Havent tried reducing power. I have it at 1 currently. Reducing the sensitivity quiets it down some but it doesn't go away. I run 85 sensitivity in my custom programs.

Im using 85 manual gb in custom programs. No ground notch.

I only have the 11' coil. And am running v3.2

I mentioned the other problem in case they might be related somehow. I clean my coil after every hunt removing the cover and cleaning inside as well. I resaved my programs and cleaned it at same time so not 100% sure which actually fixed the first issue but it hasnt recurred since.

Yes. Been starting up the detector correctly. I leave gb at 85 manual currently. Been detecting the same site for the last week. The detector worked fine as far as I can tell for a few hunts between the 2 issues. Dont know if they are related. Just mentioned the first issue since its the only other problem ive had with the detector.

Havent tried redetecting the coil or reinstalling software yet.

Ill try re initializing the coil tonight. See if that changes anything.

Thanks for the help. :)

Sounds like a Sensitivity/Ground Balance issue. You said you have the GB at 85 manual, what is your top GB number the unit is displaying? You should be +3 points above what the unit indicates. Good luck.

Good luck! I had a problem with my 9in coil a month and a half ago. One day it was fine and the next it just started acting like EMI was everywhere...I did everything I could to eliminate it but finally sent it in....the tech called me at home and told me the coil had definitely malfunctioned and he'd only seen it one time before. They sent me a new coil and I haven't had any other problems.

Nonsvch, send an email with a youtube link to Detector Electronics before you ship it off (if that's where you post the video).
Really helps DE diagnose whether you need to send it in.
