I thought the stock coil was an 8"?

If not all the 1200 series coils will work on the 1236 EXCEPT for the 1220 and the 1260.
That means that you can get a,
5"X10"
the large coil is actually a 10.5"
an 8"
5"
and the little 3-3/4"

I also think there was a 12" made for them as well.

I never owned a 1236, but I have a 1266, and my brother has had a,
1265,
1266, and a
1270,
and the stock coils for them is the 8"

But, companies try different things all the time. In any case you should be able to watch around and pick you up a used 8" somewhere.

I had one that I bought brand new from a forum sponsor and it came with a 8" coil from the factory.

The Stock coil sold that came with a new 1236-X2 was the 8 inch Spider coil, which is still used the most on this detector.HH Ron

If you find any 1200 series coils just pay attention to the connectors, if it matches what you have it will work. You can trust the info the guys above are giving you. I have went through a boat load of coils for these 1265x, 1266x, and now the 1270.
