I've only recently gotten back into detecting, after a lengthy hiatus. Heres the latest finds from about 2.0 actual hours of swinging my 1266X, in 2 separate locations. It normally hangs on the wall, acting like a well behaved "second" detector. I'm selling my Garrett GTAx 1250(which I hardly used anyway, since I stopped detecting about the time I got it!)so it's back in the box to be sold. So...out comes the ol' 1266X, just so's "I'd have something to detect with".
I went to a school yard and the local soccer field at the park with my youngsters. I don't have "retired" time to spend detecting these days, so this was good enough. Besides I don't care, anyway - just DOING it is what I have always loved about the hobby.
Now, the 1266X has never been billed as a 'coinshooter' as most of you know. Yet, here's the total from those few hours:
> 5 quarters(one Bicentennial - I love to find them!)
> 8 dimes
> 4 nickles
> 27 Memorial cents
> 1 kiddie ring
> Lots of tabs, foil, and junk
I have my disc set at:
DISC 1 - One notch below Nickle
DISC 2 - Just below zinc cent "break-up", digging all nulls in DISC 2 until I just get disgusted with tabs!
So big deal, right? Exactly! The ol' 1266X was and STILL IS a good detector. I had forgotten that. While it does'nt do some of the things a newer, super-duper unit will, it still works just like it always did, if given the chance(it used to be THE ONE to beat in the relic fields). All YOU have to do is dig. Besides thats the point anyway, right? A detector detects, its' up to you to bend down and dig.
I'll wager many of you have your old favorites, too. Dust them off sometime and remember what it was about them that was so fascinating! I had thought about selling the 1266X, too. Maybe now I won't. Anybody know where I can get a nice used Silver Sabre II?(my first detector - and a good one too)
