1270 question

I've just become interested in the 1270. Has anyone ever modified this machine for external ground balance in the discriminate mode? Would I be able to gain much depth or does it really not matter that much? Thanks
 
The 1270 does not respond well to doing what you ask. When changing the GB like you would with a external GB control, screws with the circuit a bit, causing the detector to not perform properly.
 
All the 1200's are known for being deep running detectors and none of them have a manual ground balance. So, Fisher didn't JUST leave that feature off the detectors without working out something in the electronics to compensate for ground minerals. The manual for my 1266 states "Automatic Ground Balance".
But whatever the case the 1270 is DEEP.
