12x15 SEF Do i have a bad coil?

New member
Hey guys
I figured i would put this here since there is alot of experience. Just got my new coil and hit the beach. Soon as i turned it on it was going crazy. My sens was +3 "ETrac". It almost seemed like EMI. I have used the stock pro coil at the same beach, same sand and all is fine. No chatter no R2D2 on meth. The only way i could get it to simmer down somewhat was to go into manual 7. Even then i had to sweep with the coil 4-5 inches above the sand. If i touched it or set the coil down it would go nuts again.

What do you all think?

Just pulled it off and took a good look at it. Doesnt seem to be any cracks. This really has me stumped.

my 10X12 is very smooth on my etrac and explorer at the ocean. I would reset your etrac and try again, pull the cover off and try hunting that way, start with your sens not being ramped up but definetly in auto. also make sure you dont have any scoops or such in front of you, the coil could be picking that up.

Hi EZ,
Sounds to me like something is not right as my SEF is very smooth at the salt beach even in black sand...but I only get to about 22 sense + on the E trac before it starts to get really chatty.
You know better than any one else... check all the basics on your connections, set up & settings. I would try both coils in the same spot. The SEF is a KILLER and usually very stable but should seem similar to the pro coil that came with the E trac. I like the look and feel of the SEF and I think I am getting a little bit better stability from it so if your Pro coil is not comparable to the SEF in the same area then I believe you would be safe assuming your coil is having some type of issue.

good luck
