1350 as a relic machine?

Is anyone using the 1350 as a relic machine? I have the opportunity to hunt a CW hospital site, and was wondering if this was an appropriate machine for the task. I have the 10 X 14DD and 4.5" coils in addition to the stock coil, and a Sun Ray probe. My concern is, I have never dug anything over about 4" with it. I have a test garden in the back yard that was " planted " almost 4 years ago, and 4" is as deep as it will get a hit on any US coin with any of the coils. I am wondering if it is the machine, or my ground, since I also have an Excalibur (17 frequencies) and it will only get hits to 6". If you check out the water hunting forums this machine is supposed to find rings etc DEEP, but won't in my yard.... any thoughts? HH Joe

I've used the old Garrett gta 1000 power master unit and also the GTI 1500 for relic hunting and had good success with them. I have no doubt that you'll find relics with the 1350. If you'll be hunting fields use the bigger coil and run it as hot as you can without being unstable.

I believe the "mineral chip" is available for the 1350. If your machine doesn't have one check with Garrett. If your machine is still under warranty I think you can get it for free otherwise it is about forty bucks. It allows your detector to cut through the heavy mineralization which seems to be your problem. Contact Melinda at melinda.harper@garrett.com

Does the " mineral chip" make that big of a difference to detecting in hot ground with the 1350? I have been thinking of getting the mod done myself. Can I do the mod or do I have to return the machine to have it done?

Mine does NOT have the new chip, the machine is about 3 years old. Maybe that is my problem, thank you all.
