Hi,
I was out detecting on my birthday for at couple of hours on the field of my neighbor. I did not expect to find much, but suddenly this appeared from the field

I have been told, that it is an old bronce/ copper perfume button from the 15th - 16th century, which people from the upper class( not poor people) wore in top of their jacket/ shrit, when they had to mingle with poor people Fx. in churches, so they could keep the smell from the poor people who almost never took a bath in thoose days.
My oldest button found until now.....I am happy

Interesting find!! I take it that they might stuff some herbs or something in that? Congrats!! Also, Happy Birthday!!

I believe it was small fabric dipped into fragrance oils, that they placed into the botton.
The perfume came to Europe in the 14.th century together with Islam. The first perfume in Europe was produced in 1370 in Hungary and was called "Hungarian water". (according to danish version of wikipedia)

Yes I am.
I was at their rally in april this year, and found my first Danef

First of all Happy Birthday! Second What a great find with interesting history on the piece!

Hey Michael!

Late Happy birthday!!..:)
Yes I meet Franz and his son Lukas.Lukas found a really nice silvercoin at Dragsholm.

I had 2 Danefae,first a bronze-age fibula(Dresspin) and a medevial Swedish copper sterling 1390 at Dragsholm when I used the E-trac,
I think you have a good system in Denmark with Danefae.

In UK its just crazy how much you can get for relics and coins.I guess many of the detectorists see a chance to make some money.Just my thoughts...
I will absolutely be in Denmark for the rally 2013.And hope to see you.

Cheers/Michael

I look forward to meeting you there then.
Regards.
Michael

I visited our local museum to show them the button. They said that it was nice and in good condition. They kept it and would send it to Danef
